‘The Rings of Power’ on Verge of Season 3 Renewal by Amazon

As a hardcore gamer with an unquenchable thirst for all things Middle-earth, I can hardly contain my excitement! Amazon’s decision to renew “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” for a third season is like finding a perfectly rolled Tookish pipe in the depths of Mordor.

Amazon is looking to return to Middle-earth.

The company is about to restart the third installment of their hit fantasy series on Amazon Prime, titled The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

For several months now, showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay have been meticulously planning the narrative for the upcoming season. However, some fans have been left guessing due to the absence of an official go-ahead, a situation that’s understandably caused a stir given that the second season was commissioned long before the premiere of the first one. But it seems we might get an announcement this month.

After this week’s Prime Video UK Upfront event in London, Amazon MGM Studios showcased the “Rings of Power” content and had some cast members (Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Charlie Vickers, and Sophia Nomvete) attend for advertisers. At such events, studios usually display shows to potential buyers only if they have a firm intention to keep them ongoing.

Jennifer Salke, the studio head, informed potential buyers that season two of The Rings of Power has attracted over 55 million viewers and anticipates that the upcoming season will eventually match the viewership of the first season, which surpassed 150 million. Amazon doesn’t specify what counts as a viewer, but has stated that the show remains among its top 5 most-watched series on their streaming platform. In terms of streaming minutes, The Rings of Power ranked number one on the Nielsens chart during its second week, with over a billion minutes watched. Critically and audience-wise, the second season’s reviews were slightly better than the first.

Earlier on, it was mentioned by The Hollywood Reporter that Amazon has maintained its initial intention of presenting the series in a total of 50 hours.

Payne and McKay, with their multiple-year contracts, are gathering their team for the third season’s scriptwriting room. The writers joining them include Justin Doble (executive producer), Ben Tagoe (senior advisor), Ava Wong Davies and Constance Cheng (both senior advisors), Jonathan Wilson and Griff Jones (both advisors), and Sarah Anson as a staff writer.
