As a devoted fan, I must admit that it seems we might first witness the release of the “Kickpuncher” movie ahead of the much-anticipated sequel to our beloved sitcom “Community.” Sadly, the script for the Community film is undergoing additional revisions, causing another setback. This project has been in a development limbo for quite some time now. Despite its progress being the most advanced it’s ever been, actress Yvette Nicole Brown (Shirley from the series) has shared disappointing news about further delays.
In simpler terms, Yvette Nicole Brown told Deadline that the Community movie is definitely happening, but there will be some delays due to script revisions. These revisions are necessary because Yvette has officially joined the cast to reprise her character Shirley Bennett in the film.
“I think it’s being reworked, but we all have read an entire, full script. So a script exists.
It’s certainly disappointing to learn about another delay in the release of Community. However, with the addition of Shirley Bennett, it seems almost all members of the study group are coming together for the film. In a recent chat, Brown shed light on the reasons behind the delay, revealing that coordinating schedules among the now high-profile cast is proving challenging. She elaborated:
Coordinating everyone’s schedules right now feels like piecing together a complex puzzle. Initially, we had planned to proceed, but a strike intervened. Now, we’re trying to determine when actors like so-and-so have wrapped their shows, completed their movies, or finished their tours. Essentially, we’re working hard to align everyone’s availability, and rest assured, the movie will be made, and we are all committed to being a part of it.
Who Is Returning For the Community Movie?
A significant number of the main characters from the TV show Community are expected to appear in the upcoming movie. However, as no official cast list has been revealed, there’s a chance that the team might still undergo some changes. At present, all members of the study group, with the exception of Chevy Chase, are thought to be reprising their roles. Joel McHale is likely to feature prominently, given his role in announcing the project’s green light. Furthermore, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Puddy, Ken Jeong, and Jim Rash are all speculated to return, based on various social media posts and interviews.
In a recent update, it’s been confirmed that Donald Glover will once again take on his character in the movie. Despite numerous speculations about Glover’s availability due to his busy schedule, it turns out that it was McHale himself who needed more time for the production.
