I've Binged Netflix's Nobody Wants This, And There Are Two Big Reasons It Needs To Be Renewed For Season 2

As a gamer who’s spent countless hours immersed in virtual worlds, I can confidently say that my latest escape wasn’t a game but Netflix’s “Nobody Wants This“. Despite my aversion to binge-watching, this romantic comedy series starring Kirsten Bell and Adam Brody had me glued to my screen for four and a half hours. The show is like a perfectly crafted RPG with a captivating storyline, intriguing characters, and an irresistible chemistry between the leads that would make any gamer want to level up their relationship status.

It’s not a secret that I hate binge-watching, but every once in a while, I fall victim to the modern way of watching television. I didn’t expect any show premiering on the 2024 TV Schedule to keep me captive to my couch for four and a half hours, but then Netflix’s Nobody Wants This happened. The romantic comedy series stars teen soap alumni Kirsten Bell and Adam Brody as agnostic sex podcaster Joanne and recently single rabbi Noah, who are determined to make their budding relationship work despite coming from different worlds.

Given its 93% Rotten Tomatoes rating and my self-confessed affection for romantic comedies, it’s not really surprising that I grew fond of this series. Frankly, I could easily spend an additional 100 hours watching Nobody Wants This, just to enjoy the electrifying and amusing interactions between the characters. However, that’s merely one factor that encourages me to wish for Netflix to renew the show for a Season 2.

Warning: Nobody Wants This Spoilers Are Ahead. Proceed with caution.

I Need To Know If And How Joanne And Noah Are Going To Make Their Relationship Work

As a devoted fan, I must say that the finale of “Nobody Wants This” left me hanging just like other popular streaming shows do. Initially, Joanne intended to convert to Judaism to streamline their lives, but when she recognized that this decision was solely to stay with Noah, she underwent a change of heart. In the end, she decided to call it quits with Noah so he wouldn’t have to make a choice between his dreams of becoming a head rabbi and his feelings for her. Leaving Noah’s niece’s bat mitzvah feeling wretched, Joanne pleaded with him not to pursue her. However, the tenacious Noah had difficulty staying away from her and eventually set off on foot in pursuit.

After stepping off the bus at the secluded parking area, Noah is there by Joanne’s car, ready and waiting for her. Even though his role as a head rabbi seemed to reinforce Joanne’s suspicions that he couldn’t be with her, he draws her near, and they share another passionate kiss – one that promises to ignite the web.

If “Nobody Wants This” had been a movie rather than a series, it would have provided a satisfying conclusion as most romantic comedies end with a passionate kiss – a tradition that was common in the past. However, since it is a series, the ‘happily ever after’ scene offers minimal resolution, leaving both the characters and their fans questioning how they will manage to overcome their relationship challenges. Essentially, the series finale does not address any issues beyond their romantic turmoil, suggesting that Joanne and Noah will continue facing the same problems they grappled with throughout the season.

It remains uncertain if Noah’s family will eventually accept Joanne or understand the implications of their relationship on his professional future. Additionally, it’s unclear whether the sacrifices they are making in their personal lives are justified by their relationship. As for Joanne, we’ve witnessed how her relationship has previously harmed her podcast with her sister. How will this dynamic evolve now that she is living with Noah?

Given the numerous queries regarding their upcoming trajectory and the vast possibility of disputes, it wouldn’t be prudent for Netflix to withhold another season, allowing them to clarify certain matters.

What’s Going To Happen To Sasha’s Relationships With His Wife Esther And New Friend Morgan?

Without a shadow of a doubt, romance may be the standout feature of Nobody Wants This, but there are numerous aspects that make it worthwhile. The most captivating element is the developing bond between Noah and Joanne’s siblings, Sasha and Morgan. Yet, Sasha finds himself in a predicament when he chooses to conceal his friendship with Morgan from his spouse, Esther.

In the closing scenes, it becomes intricate when Esther discovers her spouse isn’t merely acquainted with Morgan but has been conversing with her for weeks, and even disclosed a secret she shared in trust which impacted Noah and Joanne’s relationship. The final picture we see of Esther is her alongside her mother-in-law, asserting that they need to eliminate Morgan and Joanne.

Opinions among fans vary as to whether Sasha and Morgan shared romantic sparks, as they often engaged in playful banter reminiscent of Noah and Joanne. However, it’s crucial to mention that Sasha always maintains boundaries that prevent any potential threat to his marriage with Esther. Despite this, some spectators ponder about the healthiness of their relationship due to Sasha’s open criticism of Esther’s behavior towards him at times.

From my perspective, Sasha’s narrative in a potential second season could take several directions. One path might involve him trying to protect his marriage by resisting Esther’s demands to undermine their brotherly bond, potentially leading to a rift between them. Alternatively, he might assert that Morgan and him are just close friends who share a common background as the “less fortunate” sibling. A more dramatic twist could be Sasha realizing that Esther isn’t suitable for him and choosing to be with Morgan instead. However, I believe this last option would not be beneficial for the series given the criticism it has received for its portrayal of Jewish women.

Essentially, viewers are not only captivated by Joanne and Noah’s relationship, but they would eagerly watch another season to discover more about the supporting characters as well.

At present, I haven’t received any updates yet from Netflix regarding the renewal or cancellation of Nobody Wants This. Since it’s only been a month since its debut, there’s no need for us fans to start worrying just yet. However, if we want to see more of this fantastic series, I encourage all of us to watch and rewatch the show using our Netflix subscriptions. Let’s also make sure to share our thoughts on social media and leave positive reviews to keep viewership numbers high. This will help prevent the show from joining the ranks of excellent Netflix shows that were unfortunately canceled after one season.
