Following the completion of three seasons of “Industry”, Marisa Abela expressed that she’s become more mindful about the content that gets displayed, particularly in relation to her numerous intimate scenes.
The actress who portrays Yasmin in the widely watched HBO banking drama has shared with The Times of London that she appreciates her character’s openness about her sexuality, but she has personally found the need to express her own comfort level during the shooting of intimate scenes.
Abela stated, “I don’t object to the sexual scenes in the series. I recognize they are essential to the production. However, I’m more cautious now about what’s exposed on screen. Regarding nudity, it wasn’t an issue for me in seasons one and two – I agreed to it if it was in my contract. It reflected Yasmin’s character and her comfort with herself. The scenes didn’t carry much emotional significance for me at the time.
The performer from “Back to Black” added, “Nobody forced me into anything unwillingly, but at the time, I wasn’t comfortable challenging the directors. However, I’ve come to understand the potential consequences of repeatedly complying with such requests. Now, I feel empowered to express my boundaries, like asking a director to shoot from behind instead of coming around front, as it’s evident that I’m not wearing anything in those shots.
Abela shared with the newspaper that what attracted her to portraying the character, a former publishing heiress turned financial analyst, was the thrill of playing a young woman who isn’t consumed by contempt for her own physique.
The actress from ‘Rogue Agent’ stated that her vulnerabilities, which seem to undermine her self-assurance, do not stem from her sensuality, sexuality, or physical appearance – quite the contrary, these aspects are where she draws much of her strength. She openly expresses her contentment with her body, and this confidence makes those around her feel at ease physically as well.
