Celine Dion Appears in ‘Sunday Night Football’ Opening Segment Set to Her Song “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now”

As a longtime fan of Celine Dion, it’s absolutely thrilling to see her grace our screens again, especially during such a high-profile event like Sunday Night Football. Her ability to effortlessly blend her music with the passion and nostalgia of football is truly a testament to her versatility as an artist.

Celine Dion is ready for some football.

I tuned into Sunday Night Football on NBC and Peacock this weekend, where the live broadcast was launched with a pre-recorded intro featuring a popular singer. Her iconic tune “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” from 1996 played as the backdrop for this captivating opening sequence.

The opening segment took place during the encounter between the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, a game that hadn’t been televised since their clash in prime time back in 1982. Additionally, it was their first meeting since they last squared off in Super Bowl XXX held in January 1996.

Dion starts the segment by paying tribute to the game of football.

She shared that the aspect of this game which she admires most is its ability to link our current selves to our past selves. It demonstrates that our strongest memories and deepest affections have the power to remain with us eternally.

The camera subsequently focuses on her, revealing a sweatshirt from Super Bowl XXX featuring the emblems of both the Cowboys and Steelers, as well as their helmets. Notably, these two teams have competed in the most Super Bowl games – a total of three times.

Dion goes on to say, ‘I trust you understand the subject at hand?’ He then adds, ‘Occasionally, there are nights when old memories resurface.’

The video includes clips from past matches between the Steelers and Cowboys, which are occasionally inserted.

Dion goes on to explain, ‘Their relationship… perhaps not the classic love I often describe, but nonetheless, let’s try to understand it,’ she says, then begins to sing a line from one of her songs: ‘You could say, ‘When you touch me so tenderly. When you embrace me so tightly.’ It fits, doesn’t it?’

She goes on: “But really what beautiful passion it produced, what painful heartbreak it revealed so, so long ago. Like so many old flames it always feels right when they’re back together. Don’t you think? Like tonight evoking the kind of magic they once produced. the Cowboys and the Steelers, a timeless classic on Sunday night.”

The video concludes with her being splashed with Gatorade, much like numerous successful coaches have been throughout the years.

On October 26, 1996, Celine Dion’s “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” reached the second spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, falling just short of Los Del Rio’s “Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix)” which held the top position. For a period of five weeks, Dion’s song maintained its position at No. 2.

In its recent statement, NBC highlighted that Sunday Night Football has topped the primetime ratings for a remarkable 13 years straight. So far this season, it’s been watched by an average of 24 million viewers over the course of 24 weeks.

After receiving widespread acclaim for her performance at the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics, Dion made her appearance in the SNF segment. This was her first public performance since announcing her diagnosis with Stiff-Person Syndrome two years prior. Following this announcement, she postponed all of her concerts scheduled for 2023 and 2024.
