Tom Welling Gives Major Update on Smallville Animated Sequel Series

As a dedicated fan of Smallville, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia and excitement at the prospect of Tom Welling‘s proposed animated sequel. Having grown up with Clark Kent and the gang during those formative years in Smallville, Kansas, the idea of revisiting that world feels like stepping back into a beloved time capsule.

With James Gunn’s live-action Superman reboot due in theaters next year, there’s a chance we might see the Man of Steel again, but this time perhaps in an animated format if Warner Bros. and DC Studios are open to it. Tom Welling, known for his role as Clark Kent in Smallville, has been contemplating a continuation of the series’ storyline through an animated sequel. If given approval by those in charge, the original cast is eagerly awaiting their return for this long-anticipated project.

During a conversation with Screen Rant, Welling was inquired if he had reached out to Gunn and DC Studios regarding the revival of the Smallville animated series. The actor disclosed that they have progressed through multiple steps of their proposal, and now he expresses that what’s left is for Warner Bros. and DC Studios to bring it to fruition.

“I’ll tell you where it’s at: We need Warner Brothers and DC to let us do it. We’ve got Al [Gough] and Miles [Millar,] who are very busy doing a TV show called Wednesday. But they created Smallville, they want to write it. We just need to go ahead from DC and and Warner Brothers. So if you know anybody over there…because, listen, this is a passion project. It’s not going to be a blockbuster, it’s for the fans. All the actors want to do the voices of the characters – we’re all in. We just need them to let us use the property.”

With everyone involved in the cast and creative team eager to proceed with the sequel series, it’s clearly an intelligent move to initiate this project without delay. The Smallville series continues to be highly favored by fans and is often hailed as one of the finest Superman reimaginings. Moreover, Welling is closely monitoring DC Studios’ activities and is deeply passionate about the superhero genre in general.

I frequently come across information about it online and can’t wait to see how things unfold. Michael is quite close friends with him, they often communicate, and we often joke that James has only hired Michael for roles that hide his face, which is amusing! Nevertheless, I closely follow everything related to it, from DC productions to Marvel ones. I’m a huge fan!

As the series progresses, it follows Clark through young adulthood, including his professional relationship with Lois Lane (Erica Durance) at the Daily Planet.

The town of Smallville garnered instant acclaim from both critics and viewers, airing for a total of 10 seasons and 217 episodes on The WB network before moving to The CW.
