Velma Canceled at Max After Two Seasons

Velma Canceled at Max After Two Seasons

As a devoted fan of the Scooby-Doo franchise, I must admit that the cancellation of Mindy Kaling’s Velma leaves me with a heavy heart. It’s been quite a journey for the show, and while it never managed to find its footing with a consistent audience, I found myself engrossed in its unique take on the classic mythology. The Halloween special was a delightful treat that showcased the team’s creativity and dedication.

Max’s version of Velma, the comedic interpretation by Mindy Kaling based on Scooby-Doo mythology, has faced a challenging journey. Despite attempts, the series could not maintain a consistent viewership, and those who tuned in weren’t overly positive about it. Regrettably, for those hoping for its demise, it seems their prayers have been answered, as Max appears to have terminated Velma after only two seasons.

After the Halloween special debut on Max, Velma‘s background artist Davey Cummings offered a peek at some of the backdrops he created to the audience. Although the artwork is appealing, it’s the caption that has caught most viewers’ attention, as Cummings shared the news that the show won’t be coming back for another season.

He posted: “The backdrops I created for the Velma Halloween Special. Such a blast collaborating with this team! Although there won’t be a Season 3, I really look forward to working with these incredible, skilled individuals again someday. Don’t miss out on the Velma Halloween Special on MAX!

Although no formal statement has been released regarding the show’s continuation, a recent post by Cummings seems to imply that the team may have already decided privately. While it’s essential to wait for an official confirmation, this development certainly casts doubt on those hoping for another season of Velma.

One Scooby-Doo Show Is Out, But a Few More Just Hit Max

Although October marked the end of one “Scooby-Doo” series, Max offers a wealth of content for fans of this longstanding franchise. Toward the end of September, Max introduced several well-loved shows to its streaming platform, such as the cherished “A Pup Named Scooby-Doo.” If you’re not partial to Velma, it’s likely that there’s something else on the service that appeals to you. Joining “A Pup Named Scooby-Doo” are “The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries,” “The New Scooby-Doo Movies,” and “The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo.

Not just TV shows were included in the service; accompanying movies for some of these shows were also provided. Max managed to secure some top-notch titles from these series. Whether you prefer the live-action version or not, the animated ones are equally impressive, if not superior. Titles like “Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island“, “Scooby-Doo and the Witch’s Ghost“, “Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase“, and “Aloha! Scooby-Doo ” became available on Max in September. While there are more Scooby shows and movies waiting to be added, this is a solid introduction for fans.

The question that arises now is: What could be the fate of the series, Velma, following its official cancellation? Max has a history of taking shows off air spontaneously, even from their in-house productions like Close Enough and a wide range of Cartoon Network favorites. At present, Velma continues to stream, but this might not last long before it’s taken down, similar to other Max originals. Since its premiere, the show has faced much criticism. If Velma gets removed from the service, it may not stir up much controversy, but it’s a pattern that we don’t want to see repeated.
