As I delve deeper into the world of cinema and its fascinating characters, I find myself captivated by Sebastian Stan‘s journey, particularly his transformative role as Donald Trump in “The Apprentice.” It’s not every day that an actor embodies a character so profoundly that they carry a piece of it long after the cameras stop rolling.

It appears that for Sebastian Stan, the character of Donald Trump proved hard to let go. Known for his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Stan portrayed Trump in the recent biopic, “The Apprentice,” directed by Ali Abbasi. Filming for this movie fell between Stan’s long-standing commitment to the MCU. However, when he returned to film “Thunderbolts” after completing “The Apprentice,” Donald Trump seemed poised to join the Marvel Universe as well.

In an interview with British GQ, actor Sebastian Stan discussed the challenging filming of the series “The Apprentice” and its surprising impact on him. The contentious biopic portrays Donald Trump’s climb to financial success following his encounter with mentor Roy Cohn (portrayed by Jeremy Strong). The initial trailer displayed Stan’s remarkable transformation into Trump, yet he found it difficult to shake off Trump’s unique behaviors after filming concluded. “I went on to Marvel after [The Apprentice],” the actor reminisced. Known for his role as Bucky Barnes in the MCU for over a decade, Stan experienced an unexpected difficulty when reprising this role for the upcoming film “Thunderbolts.” Sebastian Stan elaborated:

Meanwhile, we were filming different scenes, and occasionally I’d do something, you know, a small action here and there. Then, I’d exclaim, ‘Oh my goodness, [Donald Trump] is still residing somewhere.’

In addition to Stan and Strong, “The Apprentice” features Maria Bakalova, Martin Donovan, Charlie Carrick, Joe Pingue, and Mark Rendall. This film is making its rounds on the film festival circuit, set to debut at both the New York Film Festival and the London International Film Festival. After initial screenings, “The Apprentice” currently holds a 77% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics have lauded Stan’s portrayal of the contentious businessman and politician in “The Apprentice,” but some feel that the movie doesn’t delve sufficiently into the intense subject matter initially suggested.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes, has a muscular and athletic build that is typical of superheroes. However, in contrast, Donald Trump, as portrayed by Stan in ‘The Apprentice’, had to gain weight significantly over two months to fit the character. This indicates a substantial shift in physique requirements for the roles he played.

Sebastian Stan sought advice from a nutritionist on how to change his physique safely. Unfortunately, the advice he received was to drink multiple beers daily. However, being mindful of honesty in his performance, Sebastian chose not to follow this suggestion. Instead, he opted for an unconventional diet that consisted mainly of ramen noodles drenched in soy sauce, which caused his face to swell due to high salt content. He also indulged in numerous peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and drank copious amounts of Coca-Cola. In a matter of two months, Sebastian Stan had added 15lbs to his weight.
