As an old-time gamer with more years under my belt than I care to count, I’ve seen my fair share of fantastical realms and complex RPGs. Metaphor: ReFantazio seems to be a worthy addition to the genre, filled with intrigue, combat, and a touch of humor that speaks directly to my heart.
Refantazio has been released at last, and numerous critics have hailed it as the top role-playing game of 2022. In fact, its exceptional ratings could potentially earn it the title of Game of the Year.
It’s not unexpected, given that Metaphor: ReFantazio was crafted by the same creators as Persona 3, 4, and 5. This game offers over 100 hours of immersive experience filled with captivating moments, well-developed characters, and a plot that’s sure to inspire many discussions among gamers in the days to come.
Conquering the realm of Euchronia won’t be a walk in the park, but here are some strategies for maximizing your hero’s adventure during the initial stages:
Take Your Time
One key lesson that emerges from the Persona series is the significance of effective time management. Moreover, given the narrative revolves around rushing through time, it’s challenging not to sense the burden of accountability.
Comparison: A metaphor is similar to a persona, as both are representations that don’t encompass limitless actions. In our everyday lives, each significant action consumes a segment of our time on the calendar.
As a passionate adventurer like myself, strategically choosing activities that suit me best is a winning approach. Proper planning is crucial to maximize the thrills of our escapades. While engaging with followers and boosting social presence undeniably advances time, it’s the unrestricted roaming through cities and dungeon exploration where the true essence of adventure lies.
There’s No Wrong Way To Talk to Followers
The quest to gather followers and win a Kingdom-wide election is no easy task.
Building connections and fostering friendships is essentially the core focus of Metaphor, similar to how camaraderie serves as a powerful force in every Shonen series.
As a fan, I want to reassure you: Don’t fret over selecting the incorrect response when engaging with your audience. Whether you opt for the wittier or more straightforward dialogue, your bond deepens in the process. It’s unlike those Persona games where we keep track of musical notes popping up from their heads!
Choosing an advantageous option boosts your MAG points, but remember, acting kindly continues to have its benefits as well.
Approximately half of the game bears strong resemblance to a graphic novel-style narrative, implying that a significant amount of reading is involved. Fans of Persona and Shin Megami Tensei will find this format familiar.
Grab All Side-Quests Before Heading into the Gauntlet Runner
Preparation is vital when it comes to Metaphor. Traveling across the Kingdom is a long and arduous task. This is why we have the Gauntlet Runner, our massive moving hulk capable of traversing great distances.
It’s a good idea to pick up any side quests before moving on to the main story destination. Our group will travel through various villages and dungeons en route, so we can accomplish multiple tasks at once.
Free roaming doesn’t advance time, so we can freely explore cities and villages and talk to NPCs.
Finish Main Dungeons ASAP
In Persona 5, it’s crucial that we complete a Palace before some unwanted event takes place. Similarly, in Metaphor, the reintroduction of the Calendar system signifies that time is ticking and working against us.
Handling the main dungeons presents a more significant problem, however. Being rich in narrative elements, these areas are tougher challenges, but they’re not as formidable as the hidden, optional dungeons.
Completing tasks ahead of schedule will provide you with an expanded timetable by a factor of ten. Essentially, a 20-day deadline is transformed into twenty days of leisure time that you can use at your own discretion. This additional time allows for venturing into new dungeons, wrapping up extra missions, enhancing your Virtues, and interacting with companions.
Develop your Virtues
Social Stats make a return in Metaphor. In Persona, you start as the bumbling student slowly developing his social skills. In Metaphor, you cultivate your Royal Virtues. Each of the five Royal Virtues can aid you in your quest. For example, the Wisdom virtue lets you access more information and unlock new dialogue options.
To move beyond a following relationship into something more substantial, it’s crucial to cultivate particular virtues. This is when effective time management comes into play. If you find yourself with spare moments, consider using them to read books from Gauntlet Runner – it could be a valuable way to develop those essential qualities.
Instead of embarking on quests or socializing with companions, reading offers a convenient method for cultivating your qualities. Be mindful that immersive character experiences may be missed while you continue to read.
Fae Sight is Your Best Friend
As a dedicated fan, I find Fae Sight to be an indispensable gameplay feature that offers limitless scanning capabilities for exploring the vast overworld. With this tool at my disposal, I can easily pinpoint interesting locations Gallica suggests for me to visit.
Additionally, it functions as a Scanner for Potential Enemies, particularly when navigating challenging dungeons. With Fae Sight, you can determine if an enemy overpowers you or not. If it’s red, beware, as it’s dangerous; yellow signifies average strength, while blue indicates weakness, making it relatively easy to defeat.
Conserve MP
Another essential tip for combat is conserving MP. Metaphor’s dungeons are long trials that continue to deplete our resources if we’re not smart enough to conserve. You wouldn’t want to be stuck in a dungeon boss with zero MP, right?
As a player, I find that Mega Points (MP) are precious, and it’s wiser not to exhaust them against common foes. Along our journeys, we can discover several items that replenish MP, but they too are scarce. Thus, conserving them for challenging boss battles is the optimal strategy.
The ‘Magic Recovery’ skill, belonging to the Mage class, is a crucial power. It enables us to regenerate MP by defeating or stunning enemies in the open world. Each enemy defeated or stunned provides a small amount of MP, allowing us to accumulate it as extensively as possible, provided there are still enemies remaining.
If the chances are heavily against you and your Magic Points (MP) are completely drained, exiting the dungeon and concluding the day will restore both your Health Points (HP) and Magic Points (MP).
Sell Gold Beetles and Sellable Items
For now, our last advice is to get rid of all the unnecessary items we currently possess from our stock. After each successful dungeon expedition, you might find random items along the way. Selling these items to the closest Non-Player Character (NPC) will give us some Reeves, which is the in-game currency for Metaphor.
As a gamer, I’ve come across some rare treasures that are worth their weight in gold – the elusive Gold Beetles. In my gaming escapades, if I happen upon one of these precious critters, I’d wisely hold onto them rather than selling immediately. The rewards they bring can be quite powerful later on!
In the realm of Metaphor: ReFantazaio, there’s a lot more ground to cover, but here are some essential starting points. Discovering the optimal Archetypes, engaging build options, and hidden gems await you in our upcoming guides.
In a more straightforward phrase, you could say: Fantazio is expected to arrive this Friday, and the players are eagerly anticipating exploring this expansive magical realm.
