The Funny Law And Order Request Mariska Hargitay Always Gets From Random Celebrities

As a long-time fan of Law & Order: SVU, I must say that the show’s longevity never ceases to amaze me. With its impressive roster of guest stars over the years, it’s always exciting to see who might pop up next in one of my favorite dramas. However, after hearing Mariska Hargitay‘s recent revelation on Late Night with Seth Meyers about celebrities’ requests to appear as dead bodies on SVU, I can’t help but chuckle at the absurdity of it all.

Amazingly, you won’t believe it, but “Law & Order: SVU” has reached Season 26! Over its extensive run, “SVU” has welcomed a multitude of guest stars – some of whom were just beginning their careers, while others were already established celebrities. The announcement of another season means even more opportunities to catch a beloved celebrity in an episode as a special guest star. Interestingly, many well-known figures have expressed interest in appearing on the show, and surprisingly, most of them share the same request.

As SVU persists in being an unkillable TV show beloved by many, even celebrities, numerous stars have expressed their desire to make an appearance on this NBC drama. During her recent interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, actress Mariska Hargitay shared the common demand from celebrities regarding the series, a request that is both amusing and intriguingly bizarre – one I can’t help but hope for more instances of:

All the famous people, you know what they want? To be a dead body. It’s so weird.

Admittedly, I wasn’t anticipating such performances from those aspiring to join the cast of SVU. Yet, consider this: how often do actors get to portray a deceased character? Moreover, the possibilities for exit scenes on a series like SVU are quite extensive, allowing for added drama if desired. Additionally, playing dead could mean less dialogue to memorize and a swift exit, making it ideal for busy schedules.

Despite the captivation seemingly stemming primarily from the concept of portraying a deceased character, even an anonymous supermodel acknowledged this as Hargitay went on.

After discovering she was fond of my program, I exclaimed, ‘Wow!’ Then I approached the writers and asked if she could appear on our show. To my surprise, she wanted to portray a deceased character, but I persuaded her otherwise by suggesting an excellent role for her instead. I reached out to her again and assured her, ‘We’ve got it! We’re going to get you on the show.’ However, she was adamant about wanting to be a corpse. This kind of thing happens quite often – why don’t famous people want speaking roles?

Admittedly, I get where these celebs are coming from, it would be fun to play a dead body.

Additionally, I’m curious about who has asked for the chance to portray a deceased character (similar to Seth Meyers) and the reason behind its non-realization. It’s amusing to consider that many people are eager to play a dead body, even when they receive live dialogue parts. Moreover, it seems like one of those rare opportunities, so I can understand the appeal.

On SVU, you can expect some top-notch guest stars in the future, but it’s unlikely that most of them will portray deceased individuals. Even so, it’s always exciting to see a familiar face on the show, and as long as it’s still airing, there’s always a chance that a notable figure might drop by.

Audience members will simply need to find out if any of those humorous and odd celebrity demands ever materialize. New episodes of Law & Order: SVU are broadcast every Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on NBC, according to the 2024 TV schedule. For a look back at all the guest stars who have appeared on the show previously, you can stream the series using a Peacock subscription.
