As a dedicated viewer of Chicago Med since its inception, I must say that the latest episode, “Trust Fall,” was nothing short of a rollercoaster ride for me – and it seems Hannah is on a particularly intense track these days! The tension between Hannah and Ripley has been palpable, but their conflict took a heartbreaking turn when Hannah lost her patient, Elise.
Spoilers ahead for Episode 3 of Chicago Med Season 10, called “Trust Fall.”
If you found last week’s episode of Chicago Med challenging due to Hannah and Ripley’s confrontation, death threats against Goodwin, and the emotional turmoil it caused, then the upcoming episode in 2024 might have been even more impactful. As expected, Hannah and Ripley’s relationship seemed strained after she went to the police against his will, and the episode titled “Trust Fall” was particularly intense for Hannah amidst the conflict… until the end, when she lost the patient she had grown attached to and desperately wanted to save. It was heart-wrenching to watch from Hannah’s perspective, but I found myself rewatching the ending due to the powerful performance by Jessy Schram.
In the final scene of “Trust Fall”, you’ll find Hannah, covered in her patient’s blood, weeping inside an elevator, trying to compose herself after. The poignancy deepens as Sam Cooke’s “Nothing Can Change This Love” echoes following a heartfelt moment between Hannah and Elise where they shared their affection for this song earlier in the episode. The only positive note for Hannah in this episode was her brief handover of her newborn daughter, Ruby, to Elise before administering anesthesia and locating the cause of the persistent bleeding – and there was indeed a lot of it.
It wasn’t entirely unexpected that Elise passed away, as Hannah’s mind immediately went back to Sybil from Downton Abbey upon hearing the patient was suffering from preeclampsia. Initially, it seemed their strife was confined to Elise seeking reassurance from Maggie rather than Hannah. I thought the episode would only bring tears due to Hannah’s emotional epiphany about wanting children of her own if she finds a suitable partner. However, this moment, delivered beautifully by Jessy Schram, came before Elise went into cardiac arrest and Hannah’s attempts to resuscitate her for over 40 minutes proved unsuccessful.
In summary, Hannah’s future appears uncertain and nerve-wracking, despite Ripley potentially moving towards forgiveness following his talk with Sully. However, Hannah might not be in a mentally stable state to handle romantic complications. Moreover, her emotional distress at the end of “Trust Fall” was quite intense, suggesting that future events may not bode well for her. Yet, after this episode, it’s safe to say that Jessy Schram will undoubtedly deliver a powerful performance.
Regarding what lies ahead for her character, Chicago Med is keeping tight-lipped about it, as the upcoming episode teaser focuses on perils to Dr. Goodwin’s life. Here’s a glimpse at what’s coming up:
