On a modest budget of $400,000, the film Napoleon Dynamite was eventually acquired by FoxSearchlight Pictures, Paramount Pictures, and MTV Films following its debut at Sundance. Subsequently, it raked in an impressive $46.1 million at the box office and received positive reviews from critics. The ensemble cast included Jon Heder as Napoleon, Tina Majorino and Efren Ramirez as his friends Pedro and Deb, Aaron Ruell as Napoleon’s brother Kip, Jon Gries as Uncle Rico, Shondrella Avery as Kip’s love interest LaFawnduh Lucas, Sandy Martin as Grandma Carlinda Dynamite, Haylie Duff as popular student Summer Wheatly, and Emily Kennard as Trisha Stevens. Even though there’s no confirmation about a sequel script, members of the cast for the movie Napoleon Dynamite have speculated on what their characters might be doing now. In honor of the film’s 20th anniversary, Heder, Ramirez, and Gries recently gathered in Orlando, FL, for a screening of the movie where they discussed their ideas. As per Heder, Napoleon is likely paying child support to two different mothers while still attempting to reconcile with Deb. In contrast, according to Gries, Uncle Rico has started his own YouTube channel called “Backyard Teenage Wrestling,” but this venture has led to legal troubles due to broken arms and ankles. Pedro, portrayed by Sanchez, appears to be thriving. He would lead a law firm with his wife, Summer, and would run for city councilman in order to bring everyone’s dreams to life.
Heder and Ramirez have come together on multiple occasions, with appearances in the 2010 film “When in Rome”, the short-lived 2012 animated series “Napoleon Dynamite” on Fox (which was terminated after only six episodes), and a Burger King advertisement for cheesy tots in 2016. If they were to return as friends Napoleon and Pedro, it would bring a wave of nostalgia.
