BBC, Sundance Now Take Aussie Dramedy ‘The Last Anniversary’

As a fan of intriguing mystery dramas with a dash of humor and a hint of romance, I am thrilled to hear about “The Last Anniversary.” With its star-studded cast including Teresa Palmer, Miranda Richardson, Danielle Macdonald, and many more talented actors, this series promises an engaging watch. The fact that it is adapted from Liane Moriarty’s bestselling novel adds to the anticipation.

The BBC and Sundance Now are joining The Last Anniversary party.

The Australian drama-comedy series produced by Blossom Films and Made Up Stories, known as “Nine Perfect Strangers,” has been acquired by the BBC for the United Kingdom and by AMC Networks’ streaming service for the U.S., before its debut in Australia.

5th Season, a TV production and distribution company under South Korean media conglomerate CJ Entertainment, has secured significant pre-sales in various territories before the MIPCOM Cannes International Television Market commencing later this month until October 24th in France. This show is one of the standout drama series for this year’s market event.

Actresses Teresa Palmer (“The Clearing”, “The Fall Guy”), Miranda Richardson (“Good Omens”), and Danielle Macdonald (“The Tourist”) join forces in the film “The Last Anniversary” alongside Helen Thomson (“Colin From Accounts”), Susan Prior (“Animal Kingdom”), Claude Scott-Mitchell (“The Dry”), Charlie Garber (“Barons”), Uli Latukefu (“Next Goal Wins”), and Jeremy Lindsay Taylor (“Force of Nature: The Dry 2”).

The popular TV show based on Liane Moriarty’s top-selling book of the same title is being produced by Samantha Strauss as the lead scriptwriter, while John Polson oversees direction for all six episodes.

The show “The Last Anniversary” takes place on Scribbly Gum Island, a location brimming with mysteries. Though the disappearance of a young couple decades ago has made it a popular spot for true crime enthusiasts, the secrets held by the three generations of women who live there are far more profound. When Sophie Honeywell (Palmer) inherits a house on the island from her ex-boyfriend’s great-aunt Connie, she sees it as a new beginning, even though she receives an unfavorable welcome upon arrival. Aiming to start over at 40 and single, Sophie is intrigued by something else that Connie left her: a hint that she might finally meet the man of her dreams on Scribbly Gum Island. However, it may be that what Sophie truly needs is an entire island populated with women instead.

The six-episode series, produced by Foxtel Group, is being filmed in Australia at the moment. However, they have yet to reveal when it will air on their streaming platform, Binge.

The film titled ‘The Last Anniversary’ is jointly produced by Made Up Stories, Blossom Films, and Fifth Season. The latter has the global distribution rights.
