After Being Asked About Alleged It Ends With Us Drama, One Of Its Editors Opened Up About Collaborating With Justin Baldoni And The Post-Production Team

As a seasoned gamer who’s been through countless rumors and speculations in the world of movies, I can’t help but feel a sense of deja vu when it comes to the alleged feud between Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively regarding “It Ends With Us.” It’s like playing a game of Whisper Down the Lane, where information gets twisted and distorted as it passes from one person to another.

During the premiere of “It Ends With Us” in 2024’s film lineup, there were whispers and speculation surrounding a supposed conflict between Justin Baldoni, the director and lead actor, and Blake Lively, the star and producer. One of these rumors suggested that the main actress requested a second version of the movie. Therefore, when I spoke with Oona Flaherty, one of the two editors credited for the project, I asked her about the widespread online reports. In response, she discussed working closely with the director and the rest of the post-production team.

According to unnamed sources that spoke with THR, disagreements between Baldoni and Lively (reportedly) arose during post-production. It’s said that two distinct versions of the film were produced, with Gossip Girl actress Lively supposedly asking Shane Reid (known for editing Deadpool and Wolverine) to create one of these versions. However, these claims have not been officially confirmed, leaving it uncertain if any part of this alternate version ended up in the final release. The film shown in theaters credits Oona Flaherty and Robb Sullivan as its editors.

During my chat with Flaherty, I inquired about the wild excitement that ensued following the film’s release, including the speculation and gossip surrounding a potential alternate version. Upon hearing this, I sought her perspective on the topic. In response, she shared her insights:

I won’t offer an opinion on all the trending topics out there. Just like a movie, there are several versions or takes, and the one I’m particularly proud of is the edit done by Robb, Justin, and myself.

After Justin Baldoni’s movie came out, there were whispers for several weeks about certain events – such as the claim that Ryan Reynolds had re-written a scene on the rooftop, which the scriptwriter Christy Hall wasn’t aware of. However, despite these rumors, the film generally received favorable critiques and did well financially at the box office.

In my review of “It Ends With Us”, I highlighted its powerful translation from Colleen Hoover’s novel. The movie, in turn, grossed an impressive $344 million globally, with $148.3 million earned domestically. This places it as the twelfth highest-grossing film of the year, according to Box Office Mojo. Flaherty expressed her satisfaction with the film’s success and shared her pride in the work she did alongside Baldoni and the post-production team. She stated:

The movie’s triumph is largely due to the collective effort, the hard work of our team initially, and subsequent teams including the sound team. It’s a testament to how collaboration thrives on diversity of thought – if one isn’t receptive to new ideas, then it might be necessary to work independently rather than collaborate with others.

In our conversation regarding this specific subject, the editor of “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret” did not bring up Blake Lively or the speculations about a potential additional edit as previously stated. Instead, she simply pointed out that various edits are common for every movie.

In the past few weeks since the controversy surrounding “It Ends With Us” erupted, there’s been a noticeable silence from those closely involved with the project. Reports suggest that Blake Lively was taken aback by the public discourse. As rumors about adapting Hoover’s sequel to this story – “It Starts With Us” – circulated, Justin Baldoni did mention that he believed Lively seemed “ready to direct.” However, it was only Brandon Sklenar, who played Atlas in the film, who openly spoke about the issue when he expressed his disappointment over the negativity spreading online, describing it as “disheartening.

According to the feedback provided by Oona Flaherty, she highly valued her partnership with editor Robb Sullivan, Justin Baldoni, and the entire post-production squad. Moreover, given the positive response the film has garnered, it’s clear that Flaherty should be very proud of her contributions to the project.

Right now, you can either purchase or rent “It Ends With Us” on Amazon. The movie is also set to be released on Blu-ray and DVD on November 5th. Stay tuned for updates about its home media release, any possibility of a sequel, and the buzz it’s generating online.
