After Hoda Ktob Announced Her Exit From The Today Show, Savannah Guthrie Reveals Why She Wasn’t ‘Surprised’ By Her Co-Host’s Decision

As a gamer who has spent countless hours glued to my television screen, watching Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie co-anchor The Today Show, I must admit that Hoda’s recent announcement came as a bittersweet moment for me. Having grown accustomed to their chemistry and the comforting presence they provided during my morning routine, it feels like losing an old friend.

Hoda Kotb, a seasoned news broadcaster, recently revealed her departure from The Today Show, leaving many fans disheartened. It’s no wonder, as this marks the close of an important chapter in broadcasting history. Kotb’s peers at NBC have expressed their thoughts on the subject, with some reportedly stunned by the news. However, co-host Savannah Guthrie offered a contrasting perspective, explaining why she wasn’t entirely taken aback by Kotb’s choice to move on.

Ever since 2018, I’ve been sharing the anchor desk on Today with my dear friend and colleague Hoda Kotb. Over these years, our bond has grown stronger, and it’s heartwarming to see that connection reflected in the way we work together. Recently, Hoda shared some exciting news, and while it took me aback initially, I have to say it wasn’t entirely unexpected, given the candid conversations we’ve had over the years.

To be honest, while I wasn’t taken aback due to our numerous discussions about life’s purpose and aspirations, I wasn’t expecting it either, given the significance of turning 60 and the introspective thoughts she’s been having. Yet, when it finally happened, I couldn’t help but feel delighted because I admire her courage, boldness, and self-assurance in pursuing her dreams. Indeed, she is writing her future brightly.

As I shared my decision to leave NBC’s iconic morning show after 17 years during our live broadcast, I explained it was a personal choice I had to make. The primary reason being, I yearn to devote more time to my precious daughters, Haley Joy (7) and Hope Catherine (5). In case you missed it, I was wearing a sparkling “M” necklace, symbolizing my role as Mom. Although I’m sad about parting ways with the news desk, I’m also filled with optimism for what the future holds. My co-host, Savannah Guthrie, echoed these sentiments, acknowledging her sadness but also expressing hope for our shared journey ahead.

I’ll hold it down. I got my Carson [Daly] and Craig [Melvin]. The whole crew.

Although the former NBC Dateline host is stepping away from her on-air duties following an early departure in 2025, she won’t be parting ways with the network entirely. Instead, it appears she’s poised to assume a new, undisclosed position within the company. In the meantime, many are eagerly anticipating who might fill the vacant Today co-host role. Insiders suggest that Laura Jarrett, who currently anchors Saturday editions of the show, is the leading contender for this position.

It’s clear that Savannah Guthrie appears content with Hoda Kotb continuing on the show for now, despite some unanswered questions. Certainly, fans, who Kotb acknowledged following her recent announcement, will savor the remaining time they have to see her on Today, before she officially steps down.
