As a seasoned viewer of survival thrillers, I must say that the show “Yellowjackets” has truly captured my attention with its gripping narrative and raw portrayal of human resilience. The story of Shauna, the teen mom struggling to survive in the wilderness, is particularly poignant. Her journey, filled with fear and uncertainty, is a testament to the strength of the human spirit under unimaginable circumstances.
In 2025, we can expect the gripping comeback of Yellowjackets, following a lengthy absence since season 2. The series focuses on a high school girls’ soccer team from New Jersey in 1996, delving into their ordeal after a devastating plane crash and the repercussions that unfolded over the subsequent nineteen months. Remarkably set twenty-five years post the incident, the show skillfully intertwines the crash events with the present day, shedding light on its lasting impact on the survivors.
As the characters gradually slip into insanity, corpses start to pile up. It could be due to cannibalism, failed survival attempts, or even turning against each other, but the group has steadily decreased in size. Yet, as their past torments them in the present and the woods’ enigmatic aura persists, the count of deceased characters continues to climb. For those eagerly awaiting the next season, here is a detailed rundown of every character (and dog) who will not feature in season 3.
16 The Plane Crash Victims
The plane crash marked the beginning of a series of events for the group of teenagers and their coaches, which was just as shocking and unforeseen as the rest of the storyline. This incident laid the groundwork for the ominous scenes that would follow. Plane crashes often become grim quickly, and this one was no exception. The girls were violently shaken due to the turbulence within the plane, creating a perilous situation.
Absolute Shock
In the first catastrophic plane crash, the unfortunate first team player perished instantly. It was Rachel Goldman who tragically suffered a fatal impalement during the crash. Her fellow teammates paid their respects with a short funeral service afterwards. Regrettably, none of the flight crew survived either. At first, it was assumed that Coach Bill Martinez had perished in the crash, but miraculously, he was found alive – albeit clinging to a tree. However, despite this temporary survival, Coach Martinez ultimately did not live much beyond the initial crash victims. This is where the ominous woods first claimed its victims, hinting at the team possibly returning to these haunting woods in season 3.
15 Coach Bill Martinez
Coach Martinez, portrayed by Carlos Sanz, tragically perished in the initial plane crash. His body was found pinned by a tree branch, but it wasn’t clear if he died from the crash or later due to the branch snapping. Regardless, his death left the team with fewer adults, forcing the teenagers to handle things independently.
A Deadly Fall
Following the tragic passing of Coach Martinez, his sons, Luciano Leroux as Javi and Kevin Alves as Travis, were left most affected by this heartbreaking event. Javi, being the youngest survivor of the accident, tried to preserve his father’s memory by continuing to chew the gum his father had given him until he was reprimanded by Travis. As time passed, Travis, who felt remorseful for his earlier actions, later gifted Javi their father’s ring as a keepsake. Though Coach Martinez was known for his tough demeanor, he was also an exceptional coach and left in a manner that was both intense and heart-wrenching.
14 Kristen (Crystal)
In a somewhat reserved manner, Kristen, portrayed by Nuha Jes Izman, was a unique team member who found it hard to correct others when they mistook her for Crystal. Similar to Misty, she was an eccentric outcast, which led to their eventual friendship. This friendship is among the strong female relationships depicted in Yellowjackets. However, much like those close to Misty, Kristen met a tragic end when she discovered that Misty intentionally sabotaged the emergency transmitter on the team plane.
Keeping Friends Close
When Kristen comes to understand just how eccentric Misty really is, she’s filled with dread and cautiously steps away. However, in the desolate wilderness, she loses her footing and plummets off a cliff, meeting her end. Given the circumstances, Kristen’s demise in this series turned out to be less dramatic than it might have been elsewhere.
13 Biscuit
Ever since the crash incident, Taissa (Tawny Cypress) has been plagued by vivid, disturbing nightmares. These dreams became so intense that she needed to be restrained during sleep. Upon waking, she’d find herself in a disoriented state, puzzled about her location and recent events. The nightmares persisted into her adulthood and with the pressure of a political campaign, they grew even more intense. When their family dog went missing and Taissa woke up with a bite on her hand, it seemed that the source of her nightmares might have been discovered.
Where’s Biscuit?
Due to the pressure of her campaign and being threatened, Taissa’s situation became increasingly turbulent until she ultimately chose to leave her home in search of tranquility and protection for her family. Upon returning to gather some personal items, her wife was shocked by a deeply disturbing sight in the basement.
Scattered around the shrine, what she discovers is fragments of Biscuit’s damaged physique, with his head atop a doll. This grim discovery deepens the chasm between Taissa and her family and leaves no doubt as to who orchestrated Biscuit’s vanishing. Although many theories surrounding his disappearance had been circulating, this mystery has finally been resolved. However, season 3 promises to unveil more conspiracies and theories.
12 Laura Lee
The devout teenage soccer player, depicted by Jane Widdop, met a heartbreaking end after bravely giving her life in a perilous endeavor for the benefit of the collective. Among the group’s members, Laura Lee stands out as the most reserved individual who continues to maintain her belief in God, even following the devastating crash. Once they discovered a Cessna aircraft hidden within the woods, it was Laura Lee who proposed repairing the plane and seeking assistance for everyone.
A Second Plane Crash
Laura Lee attempts to operate the aircraft based on instructions from the manual, momentarily getting it airborne. However, events take an unexpected twist when the plane suddenly catches fire and explodes in mid-flight, shocking everyone present. This incident stirs a sense of dread that they might not be able to avoid this tragic fate. Laura Lee, with her vibrant personality, met an untimely end either due to bad luck or perhaps being cursed by the surrounding wilderness. She leaves behind one of the most unexpected scenes in the series. As you anticipate season 3, we recommend these shows if you’re a fan of Yellowjackets.
11 Kevyn Tan
Detective Tan (Alex Wyndham) is shown as Nat’s closest friend from their high school years, united by a common passion for music. In a tense moment, Nat and Kevyn find themselves in a precarious situation when Nat’s father, suspecting them of misconduct, confronts them in her room, revealing his harsh treatment towards Nat to the viewers. Years later, as the group arrives in town, Nat seeks out Kevyn for updates on Travis’s death, leveraging their rekindled connection for information.
Missing Detective
Approaching the group, Kevin starts to perceive a darker aspect of the situation. Following Shauna’s boyfriend, Adam, disappearing, Kevin seeks out the gang in search of clues. However, upon encountering Misty’s accomplice, Walter (portrayed by Elijah Wood), Walter unwittingly helps the girls by poisoning Kevin and setting him up for Adam’s murder. This event creates a significant gap in the show’s characters. Fortunately for viewers, season 3 has recruited an Academy Award-winning actress to step into the vacant role.
10 Adam Martin
There are many fan theories about the character of Adam (Peter Gadiot). Some speculate he could be modern-day Javi, while others think he might simply be an obsessive admirer. However, it’s also possible he’s just a regular guy who got tangled up with the wrong woman. After a minor car accident links Adam and Shauna (Melanie Lynskey), they find themselves in an intriguing relationship that involves deceit and falsehoods.
The Wrong Guy
The secret relationship between Shauna and someone else is uncovered by her daughter Callie (Sarah Desjardins), almost also by Shauna’s husband Jeff (Warren Kole). However, things only spiral downward from this point. As Jeff tries to blackmail the Yellowjacket girls, he pushes Shauna to the brink as she becomes suspicious of something sinister lurking beneath the surface.
In a heated exchange with Adam, Shauna finds his responses unsatisfactory and, impulsively, stabs him. The girls are compelled to hide his body and mask Shauna’s actions. This shocking event has left viewers speculating about Adam’s involvement, and the mystery remains unresolved. The thrilling deaths and bizarre events have kept fans on the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating season 3. In the meantime, enthusiasts can own a piece of the action by purchasing the season 2 DVD, which includes additional content as well.
9 Mr. Scatorccio
“One reason why Yellowjackets stands out is the depth given to each character, with flashbacks showing their teenage years revealing more about their pasts. Sadly, for Nat (Sophie Thatcher), viewers discover she was neglected by her mother and abused physically and mentally by her father. This troubled childhood explains her distant personality and her turn towards substance abuse.
A Shocking Death
Following a heated argument with her father over finding Kevyn in her room, Mr. Scatorccio grows enraged and lashes out at both his wife and Nat. In an effort to stop him, Nat grabs a gun and points it at her father. When she tries to shoot, the safety is engaged and her father berates her for her supposed foolishness.
In a heart-wrenching moment for both the characters in the series and viewers, he unintentionally pulls the trigger as he grabs the gun, resulting in a fatal shot. This tragic event has left an indelible impact on Nat and the audience.
8 Natalie Scatorccio
Throughout season 2, Nat wrestled with her inner struggles right up until the end. Upon discovering Lottie as a new spiritual guide for an eerily cult-like society, the group recognizes a chilling similarity to their own experiences. As they aim to gather more intel from Lottie, they become concerned that her psychological state might have been irrevocably harmed during their time in the forest. Later on, Lottie informs the girls that the wilderness demands another sacrifice, prompting them to devise a strategy to potentially end the madness for good.
A Final Sacrifice
Nat and the girls opt to have Lottie lead the ceremony to make her think they fully trust her, not revealing their doubts. During the ceremony, Shauna is selected as the offering, triggering chaos as she’s chased in a raw, instinctual game.
In the midst of gunshots and pandemonium, Lisa, a comrade from their retreat who had become friends with Nat, arrives at the scene seeking clarification. Perceiving this as a threat, Misty grabs a syringe. However, Nat steps forward to shield Lisa, accepting the injection herself. This selfless act allowed Nat to confront some of her inner turmoil and she reappears on flight 2525 again. Back at the scene, the group of girls weep as Nat’s body is carried away in a poignant, emotional finale that stands out among the series’ most tragic deaths. Nat, who was adored by fans, is often ranked among the top ten characters in the show.
7 Javi Martinez
In the series, Luciano Leroux portrays the character of Javi, who is revealed as the younger brother of Travis Martinez. His pure demeanor frequently mirrors the ominous happenings that occur when he’s left in the woods. For a significant portion of the show, Javi mysteriously disappears and isn’t found until season 2, when another ritual demands his presence. It’s his unexpected reappearance that makes this episode one of the standouts from season 2.
An Icy Finish
After Nat is chosen and forced to flee, Javi reveals himself to her. He tries to aid her in escaping a tragic fate. However, while running to avoid the other pursuing women, they step onto thin ice which cracks under Javi, causing him to fall through. Misty convinces Nat not to rescue Javi, instead letting him become a sacrifice. The other girls can only watch as Javi sinks into the freezing water.
6 Travis Martinez
For a large portion of their wilderness adventure, Travis becomes Nat’s closest companion. They ignite a passionate romance that eventually dies down. However, their shared quest to find Javi amidst the snow was instrumental in forging an unbreakable bond between them. Their relationship significantly contributed to the massive viewership of season 1, making it one of Showtime’s most successful debut seasons. Post their escape from the wilderness, both face similar struggles with substance abuse. Despite growing apart, they maintain a strong connection in each other’s lives.
A Lost Friend
Among all, nobody feels the impact of Travis’ demise more profoundly than Nat. They were like two peas in a pod and her pain at his absence is indescribable. Following the plane crash incident, Travis led a mostly isolated life, distancing himself from their shared hometown in New Jersey. As the truth behind the blackmail scandal emerges, Nat embarks on a quest to locate Travis. Unfortunately, she discovers that he had already passed away. Strange symbols were found near his body, but it was eventually determined to be a suicide – a consequence of the weight of their shared past becoming too much for him to bear.
5 Mrs. DeGenaro
Gloria DeGenaro (formerly Eve Sigall), one of Misty’s patients, served as an early indication of Misty’s potential illness. The concerning treatment Misty offered to Mrs. DeGenaro revealed a darker, more sadistic aspect of Misty and her dominating tendencies. Mrs. DeGenaro tried to avoid the care that Misty was insisting on, but Misty exerted her power, ultimately withholding her recent morphine dose as retribution.
An Innocent Bystander
Upon learning that Gloria had tragically passed away due to a second stroke, I feigned compassion and even attended her funeral service. In an effort to present myself as a devoted caretaker, I spoke highly of Mrs. DeGenaro, going so far as to call her “almost like a mother” to me – a sentiment that couldn’t have been more untrue. The chilling finale to my bizarre behavior was when I placed the decapitated head of Adam Martin within the coffin, intending for it to be cremated alongside Gloria.
Mrs. DeGenaro undeniably wasn’t suited for the extreme care Misty offered, yet she became another casualty of her insanity. Her demise serves as a chilling reminder of the ruthless nature of the show, with Season 3 promising to be even more brutal.
4 Jessica Roberts
Jessica Roberts (played by Rekha Sharma) appeared as a journalist trying to persuade the survivors of the crash to disclose what occurred by promising a profitable book deal. However, she was unaware that these girls had made a promise to never reveal details about their experiences in the forest among themselves. As Roberts continued prying into their affairs, the girls grew increasingly concerned and Misty eventually captured her, hoping to extract answers from her.
Who’s She Working For?
Eventually, it becomes clear that Taissa herself was responsible for hiring Jessica Roberts from the start. She did this to prevent any of the girls from being bribed to share their story and jeopardize Taissa’s political campaign. However, by the time she shared this information with the other girls, it was already fatal for Jessica. Worried that Jessica might expose too much information to the authorities, Misty laced one of her cigarettes with poison before letting her go. Tragically, not long after lighting up the tainted cigarette, Jessica met her end in a car crash.
3 Nana Bassey
In the third episode of season 1, titled “The Dollhouse,” I’m introduced to my grandmother, Nana Bassey, portrayed by BJ Harrison. She makes a significant appearance and is one of the initial references to the enigmatic “man with no eyes.” During a funeral for Coach Martinez, I find myself slipping into a memory of me and my ailing grandmother. As I kept vigil by her side, a young version of myself asks if she’s going to pass away. She comfortingly tells me that death isn’t something to fear.
Something To Be Afraid Of
As young Taissa is seated with her grandmother, Bassey, she suddenly becomes alarmed, asserting that she sees something ominous in the mirror. This startles her granddaughter, and Nana Bassey continues to panic, yelling “Prevent him from stealing my eyes!” Her demise isn’t directly shown, but the terror reflected in Taissa’s gaze when she looks into the mirror is a chilling spectacle for both Taissa and viewers. Later on, Taissa attends her grandmother’s funeral to officially confirm her passing.
2 Shauna’s Baby
In the initial season and even the opening episode of the second, Shauna’s pregnancy plays a significant role, serving as a key plot point. The identity of the father sparks much debate and drama, particularly when it is disclosed that her baby daddy is Jackie’s boyfriend. Furthermore, Shauna’s apprehension about being a teen mother intensifies due to the looming reality of having to deliver in a remote location.
Harsh Reality
After delivering our newborn, everything seems hunky-dory for me and the girls. It’s as if everything fell into place flawlessly, and the camp is buzzing with joy. However, I can’t shake off a sense of unease because the baby was stillborn – a harsh truth that’s weighing heavy on my heart. This grim reality intensifies the bleakness we’re grappling with, and it feels like all hope is draining away bit by bit from within me.
1 Jackie Taylor
In the series “Yellowjackets,” numerous unexpected and ghastly deaths occur. However, Jackie’s (portrayed by Ella Purnell) demise might be the most astonishing and certainly the most grisly. Despite her popularity in high school and within the team, Jackie finds it challenging to fit in during their survival in the woods. Conflicts among the group escalate significantly when it is disclosed that Shauna is pregnant with Jackie’s boyfriend, Jeff. As tensions rise amongst them, Jackie gets expelled from the group. In a desperate attempt to find her place, she decides to camp by the fire on her own.
A Sign for the Worse
Jackie unintentionally dozes off near the fire, and as it dwindles, she gradually succumbs to the cold. When the girls eventually stir and comprehend her plight, they are confronted with the possibility that their actions may have led to this tragic demise. Jackie’s frozen corpse serves as an unwilling counselor for Shauna in the following days, and ultimately becomes the group’s grim introduction to consuming human flesh.
When Jackie unintentionally gets burned on the open fire, the group reacts angrily, eating their first substantial meal in months. This incident initiates a deadly ritual that continues to influence them even into adulthood. Jackie’s death is particularly significant as she was a crucial member of the group; some viewers feel she deserved a more dignified end.
