I Didn't Think It Was Possible For Marvel's Secret Invasion To Still Make Me Mad, But Don Cheadle's Latest Armor Wars Comments Definitely Did It

As a seasoned gamer and Marvel fanatic who has witnessed the rise and fall of many superheroes, I must confess that the recent turn of events in the MCU leaves me feeling akin to an old-timer at a once-bustling casino, watching as the lights dim and the games shutter one by one. The glorious days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe seem like a distant memory, replaced by a sense of uncertainty and disappointment.

Despite the overwhelming success of Deadpool & Wolverine, many still believe the Marvel Cinatic Universe (MCU) isn’t quite as strong as it once was. Following Avengers: Endgame, it seems the franchise is grappling with its new identity, and while I appreciate much of what’s been produced in recent years, I’m not alone in thinking Secret Invasion might be the weakest link thus far.

The Disney+ Marvel series featuring Samuel L. Jackson fell short of expectations, delivering a tale that was less engaging than captivating. Instead of providing an exciting narrative, it offered something more tedious than thrilling. The sudden demise of Maria Hill seemed to serve no purpose beyond creating a shock factor. Unfortunately, the series only had one intriguing plot point, and there’s growing uncertainty if this will ever be resolved.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but reminisce about Don Cheadle’s gripping portrayal of James Rhodes in “Secret Invasion.” We were all eagerly anticipating his return in the upcoming “Armor Wars” series on Disney+. However, things took an unexpected turn when it was announced that “Armor Wars” would be a film instead of a series, leaving us in the dark about its progress. In a recent conversation with TVLine, even Don Cheadle himself admitted he’s in the dark about the project’s status, making the future of this series more of a mystery than ever. The actor shared…

Absolutely! The word that stands out in the sentence for me is ‘switched.’ [Laughs] Frankly, I’m not quite sure where everything currently stands. It seems like there are a lot of changes happening, and only time will tell how things unfold. We’ll see what transpires.

As a die-hard fan, midway through “Secret Invasion,” I uncovered a shocking revelation – James Rhodes was secretly a Skrull! The climactic episode saw the genuine Rhodes being rescued, though it remained uncertain exactly how long he had been held captive. Given that his paralyzing injury in “Captain America: Civil War” might have triggered his replacement, it’s possible the War Machine we witnessed in “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Endgame” wasn’t actually our man Rhodes.

Regarding the character he portrays, Don Cheadle shared that when the concept of ‘Secret Invasion’ was proposed, it was intended to lay the groundwork for ‘Armor Wars’. However, since ‘Armor Wars’ is uncertain now, it adds to the annoyance if the resolution never comes about in ‘Secret Invasion’. It appears even Don Cheadle feels the same way.

To clarify, the initial statement wasn’t a command or an ultimatum; it was more like a proposal. For instance, “What do you think about us playing this game?” The purpose of asking this question was to prepare for a potential future event. If that event transpires and all the preparations are in place, then we move forward with it. However, if the event doesn’t occur as predicted, we can discuss my feelings on the matter afterward.

Marvel had two significant chances to discuss the “Armor Wars” project during the summer, at both SDCC and D23 events. However, neither a series nor a film (or any other form of the project) was mentioned. It’s uncertain if the project is still in development or if it has been abandoned. Here’s hoping that the production will move forward so that this intriguing storyline can be fully explored, instead of it becoming another Marvel concept left unexplored.
