As a movie enthusiast who has spent countless winters huddled around the television with my family, watching holiday classics like “A Christmas Story” and “The Santa Clause,” I must say that “An Almost Christmas Story” has piqued my interest. The tale of Moon, the curious owl, and Luna, the lost girl, promises to be a heartwarming adventure that captures the true spirit of the holiday season.
“A Nearly Christmas Tale” is based on real-life occurrences from 2020 when a small owl was found in the Rockefeller Center’s Christmas tree in New York City. The trailer hints at the story of Moon, a lively young owl who unwittingly ends up trapped within a Christmas tree headed for Rockefeller Plaza. In his struggle to free himself from the city’s hustle and bustle, Moon encounters a lonely little girl named Luna. As they traverse through an endearing journey, Moon and Luna uncover the enchantment of the festive season, learn about friendship, and forge an unexpected connection while navigating their way back to their respective families.
In “A Nearly Christmas Tale,” we find John C. Reilly (famous from “Step Brothers” and “Wreck-It Ralph”) and Jim Gaffigan lending their voices, having previously worked together on the upcoming film, “Peter Pan & Wendy.” Meanwhile, the young character Luna is brought to life by newcomer Estella Madrigal, while Cary Christopher, recognized for his role as Thomas DiMera in the soap opera “Days of Our Lives,” provides the voice for Moon the Owl.
An Almost Christmas Story Drops in Time for the Holidays
This summer, some eagerly anticipated Disney films will hit the cinemas, but Disney isn’t resting – they’re also preparing special treats for the holiday season, the most joyful time of the year. Alfonso Cuarón’s An Almost Christmas Story will be the third and final installment in his holiday trilogy to stream on Disney+. This new film has been making waves after screenings at prestigious festivals like New York’s Hamptons International Film Festival, the Chicago International Film Festival, and the Santa Fe Film Festival.
Besides John C. Reilly as The Folk Singer and Jim Gaffigan voicing Papa Owl, the ensemble of An Almost Christmas Story additionally includes Natasha Lyonne playing Pat, Mamoudou Athie (Pelly), Alex Ross Perry (Dave the Dog), Gianna Joseph (Peaky) and Phil Rosenthal as Punt. Notably, Reilly will also serenade a total of four songs throughout this animated Christmas narrative, including two freshly composed originals.
Fans eager for holiday tales won’t have a long wait ahead, as the charming and heartwarming story of Moon the Owl (Cary Christopher) and the missing Luna (Estella Madrigal), titled An Almost Christmas Story, is set to premiere on Disney+ this Friday, November 15. For those who are already itching to bypass Halloween and embrace the holiday season early, classic favorites like Home Alone, The Santa Clause, and Disney’s A Christmas Carol are all available and ready for enjoyment at this moment in time.
