Netflix Unveils German Film on Migrant Rescue Operation Starring Louis Hofmann

As a seasoned gamer with a heart for humanitarian causes, I can hardly contain my excitement for this upcoming Netflix film. The story of Jugend Rettet and their brave efforts to save countless lives in the Mediterranean resonates deeply with me, having spent countless hours navigating virtual seas in search of treasure or victory.

A movie based on a real-life event involving German NGO Jugend Rettet and their vessel, the Iuventa, which rescued countless migrants from the Mediterranean, is currently being made. This ship was seized by Italian authorities in 2016.

This unnamed movie tells the story of a band of youths from Berlin, who are moved by the sight of numerous refugees perishing as they attempt to cross the Mediterranean. To prevent this tragedy, they initiate a crowdfunding effort to purchase an old ship and sail out at sea to save these migrants.

On Wednesday, Netflix unveiled a sneak peek at its main star, Louis Hofmann, after a productive kick-off of filming in Berlin. Currently, the filming is taking place in Malta.

In addition to the main actor Louis Hofmann, the ensemble features Mala Emde, Katharina Stark, Frederick Lau, Maria Dragus, Trevor Magaya, Kathy Etoa, Felice, Saibon Wang, Joone Dankou, Merlin von Garnier, Luisa-CĂ©line Gaffron, and Omid Memar.

Under the direction of Markus Goller, the screenplay was jointly written by Oliver Ziegenbalg and Michele Cinque. The esteemed duo of Christian Goldbeck and Volker Bertelmann, winners of an Oscar for their work on All Quiet on the Western Front, handled production design and music. Frankie DeMarco oversaw the cinematography.

The film production is being handled by Christopher Zwickler from Flute Film, as well as Markus Goller and Oliver Ziegenbalg from Sunnysideup Filmproduction.
