Amazon Reveals Brian Williams Election Night Special in Big News Experiment

As a seasoned gamer who has witnessed the rise and fall of many digital platforms, I must admit, I find the collaboration between Prime Video and Brian Williams intriguing. With his extensive background in journalism, spanning nearly four decades at NBC, it seems Amazon is tapping into a wealth of experience that could potentially breathe new life into their election coverage.

Prime Video is officially in business with Brian Williams.

On November 5th, the live special event, titled “Election Night Live with Brian Williams“, hosted by the streaming platform owned by Amazon, will have Brian Williams guiding viewers as they watch the election results unfold.

The event will feature Williams alongside notable figures offering diverse perspectives and commentary on political matters. Veteran producer Jonathan Wald from NBC and CNN is set to produce this special, with White Cherry Entertainment, led by Emmy, Tony, and live events veteran Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner, handling production as well. Notably, Weiss, known for his work on the Oscars among other prestigious awards shows, will also direct this special event.

Amazon won’t be producing a traditional news division, but instead, they are creating a unique special that will incorporate aspects such as live poll results and commentary, all while drawing upon diverse perspectives from various third-party news outlets representing different political viewpoints. Essentially, it’s like having a nonstop politics channel during key events.

According to earlier reports by The Hollywood Reporter, discussions regarding the special were apparently taking place between Prime Video and Williams.

In a statement, Williams expressed that after 41 years of experience in various news sectors – from local to network and cable – this new project seems like a significant milestone. Given the expansive global marketplace of Amazon, he believes this groundbreaking venture will thrive here. He also mentioned that they will follow the narrative on election night, wherever it may take them.

For an uncommon step, this special program will be accessible to Amazon users irrespective of whether they have a Prime or Prime Video subscription. Although this action is unconventional, it’s not entirely novel. Previously, during last year’s Black Friday, Amazon made the first NFL game available for viewing by all users, regardless of their Prime membership status.

Williams spent nearly three decades with NBC, where he was an anchor for NBC News and MSNBC.

From 2004 to 2015, he was the head of the prime-time NBC Nightly News. However, he resigned following allegations of embellishments and inaccuracies in his reports, particularly those from Iraq and New Orleans post-Hurricane Katrina.

It’s worth noting that the upcoming election special on Prime Video is being positioned as a complement to its existing news content. Although this is the first original news program they’ve commissioned, Prime Video already provides a variety of free, ad-supported news channels in their “Live TV” section. These include ABC News Live, CBS News 24/7, CNN Headlines, LiveNOW from Fox, NBC News Now, and Noticias Univision 24/7.

Amazon’s Prime Video is thrilled to present Brian Williams for a unique, one-time Election Night special event. According to Albert Cheng, VP and head of Prime Video, this platform offers customers an array of programming that entertains, informs, and captivates, all within a single, user-friendly app. In this non-politically affiliated live special, we’ll be pulling from major news outlets, enhancing the various news channels available on Prime Video. Our extensive offering aims to provide modern viewers with a hassle-free way to stay updated on election results.
