As of now, no new showrunner has been appointed, and there are discussions about setting up a new writers’ room.
It’s quite surprising given Rafe Judkins’ current commitments – he’s the showrunner for Amazon Prime Video’s ‘Wheel of Time’ and has an overall deal with the platform. Additionally, he penned the script for ‘Uncharted’, a film adaptation of a PlayStation video game starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. Notably, Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, creators and showrunners of another hit Prime Video series, ‘The Expanse’, are also on the list. They wrote ‘Children of Men’, which garnered an Academy Award nomination, and were part of the team that scripted the first ‘Iron Man’ movie.
The well-known video game series, God of War, started in 2005 and revolves around Kratos, a Spartan warrior who eventually ascends to the role of God of War after embarking on a mission to eliminate all gods from the Olympian pantheon. Subsequent games delved into Kratos’ family life and had him battling Norse deities. In an effort to broaden its media influence, Sony has been mulling over adaptations of hit video games from their PlayStation collection, with God of War being a prime candidate for such development.
