As a dedicated fan who has witnessed the rise and fall (and rise again) of many beloved characters in the Arrowverse, I can attest that Katrina Law‘s portrayal of Nyssa al Ghul on Arrow was nothing short of extraordinary. The bond she formed with her co-stars during those long years of filming, traveling, and convention appearances was truly unique.
Prior to her portrayal of Agent Jessica Knight in NCIS, Katrina Law was widely recognized for her recurring role as Nyssa al Ghul on Arrow. Nyssa made her debut in Season 2 and remained a constant presence throughout the series, appearing in each subsequent season. In the final episode, titled “Fadeout”, Law’s character joined several other returning stars to pay their respects at Oliver Queen’s funeral. Reflecting on this poignant reunion with fellow Arrow cast members in an interview with TopMob, Law described it as a fitting way to bring “closure”.
In my recent chat with Katrina Law, we primarily discussed her role on NCIS, such as when she learned Jessica Knight would continue into Season 22 and the reasons behind her character’s significant choice in the premiere of that season. As our conversation wrapped up, I brought up her past appearance in “Fadeout,” an episode aired on The CW about half a decade ago. Here’s what she shared with me regarding filming the funeral scene:
It was a fitting end to our adventure. Gathering everyone was so heartwarming, and the cast, they were my fellow globetrotters for seven years, even though I was just a guest star. We attended conventions together, venturing across countries as well. We met fans, witnessed them grow their families, and even held their babies. Sharing this unique bond that comes from traveling together is truly special. It’s amazing to see everyone eager to reunite for the final episode, making it an exceptional way to celebrate our remarkable journey. In essence, it was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on what an incredible ride we all shared.

In the episode titled “Fadeout”, Nyssa al Ghul is primarily depicted conversing with her half-sister Talia and her ex-lover Sara Lance during Oliver Queen’s funeral. For Arrow enthusiasts, it might be refreshing to remember that Nyssa’s father, Ra’s al Ghul, had compelled her into marrying Oliver in Season 3. However, this marriage was later nullified by “The Thanatos Guild”. Despite the annulled marriage, Nyssa and Oliver managed a friendly rapport when they became allies. When Sara expressed gratitude for Nyssa’s presence at the funeral, she replied that there was no place else she would rather be. Evidently, actress Katrina Law also felt this way, appreciating the opportunity to spend one last moment with her Arrow co-stars whom she had worked alongside over the years, as well as meeting new faces in the process.
Even though Arrow concluded its run in early 2020, John Diggle’s storyline continued to unfold across different DC TV shows, particularly focusing on the mysterious green-glowing box he discovered in “Fadeout.” This aspect of the Arrowverse was revisited one final time in The Flash Season 9 episode titled “It’s My Party and I’ll Die If I Want To,” where David Ramsey returned as Diggle, and Stephen Amell made a comeback as Oliver Queen for the first time since Arrow’s series finale. Interestingly, Arrow’s penultimate episode, “Green Arrow and the Canaries,” was initially intended to serve as a pilot for a potential spinoff with the same name. However, the decision was made in early 2021 not to proceed with the project.
