Gwen Stefani Explains Why Snoop Dogg May Struggle During The Voice's Battle Rounds, And She Has A Point

As a long-time fan of The Voice who has witnessed countless seasons and battles, I can confidently say that this year is shaping up to be one for the books! With Snoop Dogg joining the panel as a rookie coach, the dynamic is already electric, and his unique approach to mentoring is a breath of fresh air.

If you’ve been following “The Voice” since Season 26 made its way onto the 2024 TV lineup, here’s where things get particularly intense. Once the coaches have selected their 14 contestants, they’ll need to narrow those teams down. That’s right, it’s time for the Battle Round! Each of the four celebrity coaches will now face the challenge of pitting their singers against each other. Gwen Stefani believes Snoop Dogg might find this “two singers compete, only one advances” aspect tricky, and I must admit, I can understand her perspective on that.

Snoop Dogg is among the two new coaches on “The Voice,” alongside Michael Bublé. He’s been a standout for me this season so far. During the Blind Auditions, the mentors were adding people to their teams, providing them with their long-awaited opportunity. However, the Battles are quite different, and it seems like Snoop Dogg might require a bit of “Gin and Juice” to make it through. As Gwen Stefani told Access Hollywood:

It seems to me that Snoop is an incredibly kind individual, and I believe he struggles with providing criticism due to his deeply spiritual nature. He’s always striving to find the positive in any given situation. The concept of saying something negative is something that genuinely distresses him.

In the Blind Auditions, Snoop consistently displayed warmth and positivity, offering hugs and encouraging words even when artists failed to turn a chair. Michael Bublé praised Snoop’s kind-hearted nature with a heartwarming anecdote about his young daughter being a fan, and it promises to be quite intriguing as the singer of “Affirmation Song” competes against his own team members in the upcoming episodes.

As a fan, it’s hard for me to envision him being anything but supportive towards the artists throughout the Battles. I’d wager that his attention will primarily be on celebrating the exceptional talent of the winner, rather than dwelling on the reasons behind another artist’s misses.

Regardless, if he aims to emerge victorious on “The Voice”, it’s likely that he’ll need to provide some constructive feedback at some stage. Snoop Dogg explicitly mentioned that he wasn’t assembling a team of singers who are already polished; instead, he wants to foster growth. In essence, remember that he is a coach not just for “The Voice” but in general!

An alternative approach might involve highlighting how new coaches frequently find it challenging to let go of talented artists, but Blake Shelton stands out as someone who has demonstrated a solution by continuing to aid those singers in their careers beyond the television screen. This could potentially provide some comfort for the rapper.

Regardless, this season has been thrilling thus far, featuring a regulation adjustment that leaves me undecided and a competitor breaking records, causing me to question everything I thought I knew about the competition. In other words, let’s get ready for the Battles!

Starting at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on Monday, October 21st, the second round of “The Voice” Season 26 will commence on NBC. New episodes will air every Monday and Tuesday (except for Election Day), and if you miss an episode, you can catch up by subscribing to Peacock.
