The Hottest Ticket in Town: Johnny Depp to Close Out Rome Film Fest With ‘Modi’

As a long-time admirer of Johnny Depp’s work, I am beyond excited for his upcoming film, “Modi”. Having followed his career from the early days of Ed Wood to Pirates of the Caribbean and beyond, I can confidently say that this film promises to be yet another masterpiece. The fact that it will close out the Rome Film Festival and receive the coveted Capri Cult Award is just icing on the cake!

Johnny Depp’s latest movie titled “Modi” is scheduled to conclude the Rome Film Festival this coming Saturday, October 26th, and citizens of the ancient city are eagerly anticipating his arrival.

Without a doubt, one standout event during this otherwise ordinary 10-day festival is Johnny Depp’s scheduled appearance on Saturday, where he will present the film Modi. This biopic premiered at the San Sebastian Film Festival and provides an intriguing portrayal of three turbulent days in the life of Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani.

On a different note, Depp’s movie will be awarded the prestigious Capri Cult Prize during the weekend, distinct from the film festival. This event takes place on Friday evening.

On Friday evening, the creator of “Modi”, Barry Navidi – a close acquaintance of Al Pacino – will receive the Capri award. In Johnny Depp’s movie, Navidi portrays Maurice Gagnant, a passionate art collector captivated by Modigliani’s work.

Each year, the Capri Cult Award is given out by the Capri Institute, a non-profit organization responsible for organizing the film festival named after the famous island. This annual event, known as the Capri Festival, starts on December 27th. The Capri Institute is currently headed by Lina Wertmuller. Last year’s recipient of this award was the independent film “Miranda’s Victim“, directed by Michele Danner.

The film “Modì” demonstrates Johnny Depp’s directorial prowess by transcending typical Hollywood tropes, boasting an exceptional ensemble cast comprising Al Pacino and Rebecca Hall. This captivating narrative delves into the life of the renowned painter Modigliani, exploring his art, relationships, and internal battles. It underscores Modigliani’s unyielding quest for recognition in the art world, revealing both his creative brilliance and tumultuous journey.

On Saturday is when Johnny Depp will make his appearance before the film festival audience, but the excitement surrounding him begins a day early. The formal Capri award ceremony, which kicks off the Depp-mania, will take place a day ahead at the Studios – Ex De Paolis in Rome.

After the event concludes, there’ll be a glamorous dinner party showcasing an illustrious gathering of guests from the Italian film world and beyond. Notable attendees will include Oscar-winning director Billie August, producer Tony Renis, as well as Oscar-winning art directors Dante Ferretti and Francesca Lo Schiavo. In addition, you can expect the film’s stars Riccardo Scamarcio and Antonia Desplat, plus other Italian luminaries such as Enrico Vanzina, Massimo Ghini, Lina Sastri, and others to grace the occasion.

Pascal Vicedomini, who organizes the Capri awards, expressed his delight in merging the inauguration of the 29th Capri Hollywood edition in Rome with the centennial celebration of the initial construction stone of the International Studios on Via Tiburtina.” (Paraphrased)

Vicedomini, who hosts an Access Hollywood-style program on Italian television, is the founder and president of the Capri Institute. He has dedicated his life to broadcasting about cinema and building cultural bridges between Italy and the United States. Under his leadership, the Capri Institute has hosted significant events, promoting Italian film talent in Hollywood.

The Capri Cult Award, given prior to the Capri Hollywood festival (from Dec. 27th to Jan. 2nd), showcases Vicedomini’s influence within the industry. Backed by the Italian Ministry of Culture and corporate sponsors, he has successfully made the Los Angeles festival a companion event to Capri.

Vicedomini stated that this festival is believed to be a symbol of good fortune for several attendees. He also mentioned that we’ve invited numerous individuals who were previously obscure, only to gain widespread recognition, such as Gerard Butler and Mélanie Laurent,” he continued.
