Did You Know Neena Gupta prayed for her films to not release for THIS reason: ‘I will suffer but…’

As an ardent fan of the illustrious and inspiring Neena Gupta, I find her journey through the Indian film industry nothing short of captivating. Her four National Film Awards serve as testament to her unparalleled acting prowess, yet it is her resilience and humility that truly resonate with me.

Neena Gupta, a well-respected actress known in the Indian film industry for several decades, possesses four National Film Awards as evidence of her acting prowess. She is not just admired for her graceful aging, but also for her ability to outshine many younger actors. However, it may surprise you that there were instances when she fervently prayed to God and hoped some of her films would remain unseen because they weren’t up to her standards.

During a recent conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Neena Gupta shared memories of her early days in the Indian film industry when she accepted roles that weren’t aligned with her heart just to earn a living. As a newcomer in Mumbai, she often found herself taking on poor quality, stereotypical roles such as a servant. Since joining the industry against her parents’ wishes, she felt it was best not to rely on them financially.

She explained that she’s taken on numerous poor acting roles, and sometimes even pleaded to God for those movies not to be released because they were that terrible. “My worth lies in enduring hardship, but never asking for payment,” she summarized.

Recently, the actress won the National Film Award for the film Uunchai. When asked what this win meant to her, personally and professionally, the actress exclusively told TopMob, “This award is special for two reasons. One is that it is a National Award. National means India ke sabhi regions ki filmein, bhashayein aur pranto ki filmo mese aap chune jate hai (You are chosen from the films and languages of all regions and states of India). It’s not just from Hindi cinema.”

She expressed, “This prize is extremely significant to me due to Sooraj Barjatya. For over three decades, I’ve yearned to collaborate with him, and serendipitously, it came true. To receive this recognition alongside his movie feels incredibly meaningful.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Neena Gupta was last seen in Kaagaz 2.
