Agatha All Along's Billy Flashback Finally Answered One Of The First Episode's Lingering Question, But Raised An Even Bigger One

As a die-hard fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I’ve spent countless hours dissecting every frame and dialogue from each show and movie. The twist in WandaVision was nothing short of mind-blowing, and Agatha Harkness’ transformation into the supposedly dead Agnes was a shocker that left us all scratching our heads. Now, with Agatha: House of Harkness, we’re diving deeper into her backstory, and I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds!

Spoilers align The Witches’ Road below for anyone who hasn’t yet caught up with Agatha All Along via Disney+ subscription, so be warned!

The sixth episode of “Agatha All Along,” titled “Familiar By Thy Side,” could have significantly altered the direction of future Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films and series by providing a backstory, in essence, for Joe Locke’s character Billy Maximoff (and William Caplan). This development might pave the way for the Young Avengers’ formation, solidify Billy as the “Black Heart” member of the coven, and even bring Ralph Bohner back into the picture. Furthermore, it cast a fresh perspective on Agatha’s hallucinations from the first episode.

Regarding William Caplan’s talk with Lilia and the family’s car accident after their Bar Mitzvah, fresh insights have emerged regarding events portrayed in “Seekest Thou the Road,” including Lilia’s unexpected outbursts. Furthermore, a remark made by Agnes to Agent Vidal that was previously puzzling now seems clear but alters one of our long-held assumptions about the corpse, which many believe to be Wanda. This new revelation has me doubting if our assumption is entirely accurate.

Question: Why Didn’t Agnes’ Car Wreck Details Match The Crash That Killed William?

For individuals who haven’t revisited the first series episode with fresh excitement following each subsequent one (I should clarify, I don’t necessarily do that myself), the accident that led to William Caplan’s death was hinted at during a conversation between “Agnes” and “Agent Vidal”, where they were joking over beers. It was later revealed that these appeared to be empty coffee mugs.

Agnes suggests she’s found a fresh piece of information regarding the unsolved body case. She mentions an accident occurred in Eastview, which we’ll elaborate on later, and here are the specifics she’s disclosed:

Stain resembling blood on the backseat… Front-seat airbags activated… A hunch suggests they’re connected, yet I can’t help but wonder if I might be interpreting things incorrectly.

As I eagerly awaited the sixth episode, I couldn’t help but ponder among the gaming community who might’ve been in that car – many speculated it was Billy and one of his parents, with some even suggesting Wanda herself could’ve been behind the wheel, although this was outside the hex. However, sneak peeks for the episode made it abundantly clear that Locke was indeed in the backseat, and he was wounded severely enough to account for the traces Agnes had mentioned. Yet, we now understand why the initial reports were hazy.

Answer: The Sigil Caused Alice To Forget Billy In The Police Report

Since Alice Yu was the first officer on the scene when Jeff Kaplan flagged her down after the crash, it’s likely that she was the one who prepared the police report, which subsequently became relevant to Agnes at a later time. Moreover, as soon as Alice ceased focusing on the backseat, the teenager (who still had the sigil created by Lilia) seemingly vanished from her memory. Therefore, when Alice submitted her report detailing the incident, she probably only recalled two individuals being in the vehicle.

This solution could also be derived through a different approach, one that remains valid even if the show “Agatha All Along” included a scene where Alice wrote the police report while gazing at Billy’s unconscious form. It is plausible that during Agnes’ recollection of the accident details, the sigil effect might have prevented her from recognizing that someone else was in the backseat, obscured by the blood.

New Question: Are We All Wrong About Wanda Maximoff Being The Dead Body?

In Agnes’ police investigation and the movie “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” two distinct connections were established between the deceased bodies: one was the crushing incident, and the other was the discovery of Eastern European soil under the nails. However, the timeline presented at the premiere appears to be inconsistent with the events that unfolded on the day Wanda dismantled the Westview Hex.

Here’s the bit of info Agnes shared that I’d purposefully left out of the above quote:

There was a car wreck, about an hour before time of death.

Agnes is implying that the person she examined earlier, close to where she discovered her brooch, mysteriously passed away an hour following the crash. This event seems to have enabled Billy’s spirit to occupy the body of William Caplan immediately after his heart stopped beating. However, it appears that details about what transpired a full hour after Westview’s residents were released from Wanda’s mental control are not accessible to fans.

Following their intense aerial showdown between Wanda and Agatha, culminating in Wanda casting a spell that induces TV-oriented delusions in Agatha, the Scarlet Witch lifts the Hex, engages in a concluding conversation with Monica, receives disapproving gazes from the persistently anxious townspeople, and departs, flying away. The exact timing of her arrival at the cabin for her Darkhold study is unclear, but it appeared to be significantly more than an hour later.

If we consider the given timeframe as absolute truth, which may not be certain, it leaves room for speculation that Wanda wasn’t actually seeing her own corpse. The black marks on the hands, suggesting recent Darkhold manipulation, along with the close proximity to Agnes, make me lean towards the possibility that she might be looking at someone much more acquainted instead.

Possible Answer: It’s Been Agatha’s Corpse All Along

As a fan, I can’t help but ponder an intriguing perspective: It strikes me that this narrative device might be intentionally enigmatic, perhaps to create a sense of mystery surrounding Wanda’s character in the opening episodes. This approach could also offer a fresh interpretation to Agnes’ wink, hinting at the uncanny realism of the ‘dead’ body she was referring to. After all, it adds an element of suspense and keeps us guessing!

Is Wanda Really Dead? Joe Locke Tells Us His Opinion, As Well As Billy’s Thoughts On It After Agatha Episode 6

It struck me as unusual that Agnes discovered the Mother, Maiden, Crone brooch lying in the mud close to the deceased body. While it’s possible that the altercation between Agatha and Wanda might have moved the brooch, I can’t help but wonder why it would matter for Agnes to find it near Wanda at that moment. Also puzzling is Agnes’ apparent discomfort when gazing at the body, as she covered her chest while looking intently. I’m not sure she’d react so strongly to the death of someone she perceived as an adversary.

Regarding the blackness on the fingers of the deceased that was associated with the Darkhold, it’s important to remember that Agatha’s hands were predominantly dark during the final battle in WandaVision. Even though she had to maintain her disguise as Agnes due to Wanda’s spell, this doesn’t alter the fact that her true body would remain the same until the Darkhold’s control ceased. Therefore, if Agatha somehow perished immediately following the lifting of the Hex, it can be assumed that her hands would still show the same darkened appearance.

This reasoning might suggest two possible reasons for why Rio appears as Agatha’s hallucination in such a manner. One theory is that Rio embodies Death itself, or at least represents Lady Death, which could explain her presence. Another possibility, if we consider this, is how Evanora managed to possess Agatha’s body during Episode 5. If we assume that the red witch had lost her life force three years back, this theory could provide an explanation for the event.

However, it’s important to note that this theory isn’t completely foolproof and could be disproven with any new revelations in the last three episodes. The only surefire way to know is by tuning into Agatha All Along every Wednesday at 9:00 p.m. ET on Disney+.
