The news that support for VR devices on PC will be dropped by March 2025 is a bitter pill to swallow, leaving me with the grim reality of returning to the monotonous, flat world of my monitor.
Due to a recent announcement from Mojang, enthusiasts who enjoy playing Minecraft with VR headsets may find themselves reverting back to using monitors. In their latest Bedrock changelog update, Mojang announced that as of March 2025, Minecraft will no longer be officially compatible with VR devices on PC.
The company also announced last month that it will drop support for PSVR, leaving VR players looking for other solutions to play Minecraft in VR.

The inclusion of Virtual Reality (VR) compatibility for Minecraft has enabled players using different Bedrock editions – like those on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and mobile platforms – to participate in crossplay. This unique feature allows VR users to team up with friends who are playing the game on their phones or consoles, fostering a multiplayer experience in Minecraft. Regrettably, many enthusiasts of VR gaming, who cherish Minecraft, may find themselves limited to playing it on non-VR devices.
Disappointed Reddit discussions revolve around VR and Minecraft, with some users suggesting substitute options for enthusiasts. For instance, Vivecraft on PC VR or QuestCraft on Meta Quest can be utilized by those who own these devices. These tools enable Minecraft play in a virtual reality setting; however, they are third-party modifications that might not offer the full range of VR functionalities provided by Mojang when using OpenXR as their platform.
Mojang has just rolled out the 1.21.40 update for Minecraft’s Bedrock edition, introducing bundles for better inventory management and an innovative Hardcore mode. In the Hardcore mode, players will experience permadeath, with the option to observe after death, much like spirits in their own realm – a unique twist for this Halloween season.
