As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for sneaker culture and a deep-rooted appreciation for the 90s aesthetic, I must admit, the New Balance x atmos MT580 “Land(E)scape” has piqued my interest. The vintage sensibility, the contrasting leathers, the ostrich-printed leather at the collar and toe box – it’s a beautiful blend of old and new, much like the evolution of gaming graphics from pixelated sprites to high-definition realism.
The sports brand New Balance and atmos have introduced a special edition MT580 named “Land(E)scape”. This unique design is inspired by the iconic 90s model and pays tribute to it. In Japan, where the original MT580 gained widespread popularity as a trail running shoe, this new version maintains an old-school charm through its upper made entirely of leather in earthy colors with different finishes.
The uppers, made of contrasting materials, feature predominantly matte beige at the eyestays, heels, and tips. Brown suede details and ostrich-patterned leather adorn the collar and toe box, adding depth and sophistication. A piece of green leather graces the tongue, showcasing a rubber “580” label, while the New Balance logo appears in black leather at the sides. The midsoles are divided for a more technical and substantial feel than typical New Balance designs, and the outsoles, which match the uppers, have a textured appearance as if made of leather.
A unique detail embedded within the soles reveals the history of the freshly introduced MT580 and pays tribute to the US’s M585, serving as its primary inspiration back in 1996. The MT580 “Land(E)scape” will be manufactured in a restricted run with just 580 pairs set for distribution.
On November 15, you’ll have a chance to purchase the New Balance x atmos MT580 “Land(E)scape” shoes through a pre-sale raffle at the atmos online store.
