As someone who’s been sailing with Luffy and his Straw Hat crew since its debut, I must confess that One Piece’s Fishman Island Arc has always left me feeling more like a castaway than a pirate. The remastered version might be a step in the right direction, but it’s got some serious sea legs to grow into the beloved series we all know and love.
The popular anime series, One Piece, has decided to postpone its Egghead Arc until the 2025 TV lineup begins, which may be disappointing news for fans. However, there’s still plenty to anticipate! The franchise plans to release an enhanced version of a past arc – Fishman Island Arc – that has been criticized as one of the series’ weakest with over 1100 episodes. In my opinion, it’s the poorest arc, and it’s long overdue for the franchise to make improvements.
On Fishman Island, the number of episodes has been reduced from 62 to just 21. This is definitely a step in the right direction, but I’m not convinced that improved animation and a compact storyline will address all the problems with this arc. Regardless, watching it might help pass the time until Season 2 of the live-action One Piece becomes available on our Netflix subscription.
The Villains Are Not A Real Threat To The Upgraded Straw Hats
As a dedicated One Piece gamer, I’ve got to say that Fishman Island doesn’t quite live up to the tension of other arcs for me. Right from the start, it feels like Hordy Jones and his gang stand no chance against our mighty Straw Hat crew, who’ve spent the last two years beefing up their powers.
Sanji Almost Dies For The Stupidest Reason Ever
One Piece can always be a bit grating when Sanji is a sex-crazed skeez for humor, but Fishman Island makes that worse by trying to use it to dramatic effect. Sanji is overwhelmed when seeing the beautiful mermaids, and as is often the case in anime, characters get a nosebleed when they see beautiful women. The problem is that Sanji’s nosebleeds become so frequent he suffers tremendous blood loss and almost dies. It’s such a stupid storyline and it’s taken 100% seriously.
Jimbei’s Story Goes On For Far Too Long
Jimbei is an interesting character from the series “One Piece“. However, the tale he spins about the Fishmen being subjected to servitude by the Celestial Dragons seems unusually lengthy. What’s disappointing is that despite its length, it’s not a complicated narrative, but rather one that stretches out so much that viewers can predict the outcome before the story reaches its climax. I hope most of it will be trimmed when we see the remastered version, but only time will tell.
Shirahoshi Is One Of One Piece’s Most Annoying Characters
I’m hoping that when the ongoing remake of “One Piece” manages to re-tell this story, they might discover an approach to make Princess Shirahoshi less grating. While it’s not feasible to eliminate her entirely from the narrative due to her significance (spoilers would be involved), I am optimistic that with a reduced episode count, they can trim down her scenes of crying and whining significantly.
According to the latest news from Netflix, the anime adaptation of One Piece won’t be covering the Alabasta arc in its second season. This decision leaves me both comprehending and concerned for several reasons.
As a passionate gamer, let me express my frustration: Shirahoshi, though she’s a teenager, is penned as if she’s just four. It’s downright frustrating to deal with, especially during the Fishman Island arc of One Piece, which already has its share of upsetting moments. To be honest, I’d rather rewatch Skypeia twice than go through it again, but I can’t deny that I’ll be tuning in for the remaster. After all, I’ve binge-watched all the ’80s and ’90s anime worth streaming, so what else am I left with?
