Selena Gomez on Her Mental Health Fight For “Young People Who Reach Out to Me Every Single Day”

As a long-time fan of Selena Gomez, I have always admired her for her strength and resilience, but this event truly solidified my admiration for her. Her dedication to mental health awareness and support is commendable, especially considering her own personal struggles. The fact that she uses her platform not just to entertain, but to make a significant impact in the lives of others is truly inspiring.

At a Los Angeles event on Thursday, Selena Gomez held her second annual charity function aimed at supporting youth mental health. During this gathering, she shared insights from her own mental health journey.

The evening event, titled “A Shimmering Moment of Introspection,” served to bolster the objectives of the Rare Impact Fund, which aims to raise a monumental $100 million for charities enhancing global youth mental health services and educational resources on this topic. To further this cause, 1% of all proceeds from Gomez’s Rare Beauty line are contributed to the Rare Impact Fund as well.

As the night’s host, I, a fervent admirer, had the privilege of introducing Billy Crudup. He graced the stage at the charity event to discuss our shared passion – helping others. With a heartfelt declaration, he echoed my sentiments perfectly: “My lifelong aspiration has been, and always will be, to make a difference in people’s lives.

In her personal experience with mental health issues, the celebrity expressed, “Upon being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, my perspective shifted dramatically. What I required was knowledge that could lead me to appropriate help. This understanding empowered me to confront my fears boldly, just as my mother has always encouraged me. It marks the beginning of a unique journey, and everyone deserves support when they need it, regardless of their identity.

I value connections deeply, and I strive to advocate for those who might not have a voice or feel unheard. I aim to represent the countless young people who confide in me daily and share their stories with me. Their love and loyalty have been instrumental in helping me through tough times, and for that, I am forever indebted to them. My goal is simply to do everything possible to give back.

At this shindig I attended, there were some pretty cool people in attendance. Benny Blanco, who’s dating Gomez, was there, along with Lil Dicky aka Dave Burd. David Henrie, one of the wizards from “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” showed up too. John Hoffman, the mastermind behind “Only Murders in the Building,” was also part of the crowd. Jeff Rosenthal, Dan Fogelman, Tay Lautner, Halston Sage, and Justin Tranter were all there as well. To wrap up the night, Karol G and Teddy Swims took the stage for some fantastic performances.

Gomez shared with The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet why this cause is so important to her: ‘I aim for Rare to be a welcoming, secure environment where people can access resources, connect with others if they require assistance.’ She desired to establish a space that is currently lacking for our community, for those dealing with challenges. It’s truly a wonderful blessing and fulfillment to be able to give back and do whatever we can.
