Daisy Ridley Provided An Encouraging Update About Her Star Wars Movie Right As It Lost Its Screenwriter

As a seasoned gamer of the Star Wars universe, I’ve been through the highs and lows of this epic saga. The Rise of Skywalker may have left us on a bit of a cliffhanger with Rey, but it seems that her story isn’t over yet. However, the recent departure of screenwriter Steven Knight from Daisy Ridley’s upcoming Star Wars movie has left fans a tad worried about its future.

Despite Star Wars remaining one of the largest and most triumphant media franchises in history, with “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” released in 2019, its recent success has primarily been confined to television. Over the past five years, many Star Wars films have been announced, yet none have ever come to fruition on the big screen. Now, fans are anxious about the fate of Daisy Ridley’s planned Rey movie; however, Ridley herself appears less troubled.

As a die-hard Star Wars fan, I’ve got to say, the cinematic universe of this epic saga seems to be on an upward trajectory lately. The production of “The Mandalorian” and its adorable little green sidekick, Grogu, is in full swing, so we can expect a grand screen adventure when the next Star Wars movie premieres in May 2026, provided there aren’t any unexpected twists. Yet, the sequel that was supposed to follow seems to have encountered some obstacles on its path.

Daisy Ridley’s Star Wars Movie Has Reportedly Lost Its Screenwriter

According to a report by Puck News (via Variety), it appears that Steven Knight, who was handling screenwriting duties for the upcoming Star Wars movie featuring Daisy Ridley reprising her role as Rey, has left the project. The reasons behind his departure remain unclear, but Lucasfilm is currently on the lookout for a replacement writer. Knight had replaced Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson in the scriptwriting role earlier on.

Daisy Ridley remains part of the cast for the upcoming film, while Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy continues to be in line for directing duties. As of now, there’s no official release date announced, but given its swift progress compared to other Star Wars projects, speculation suggests Disney may be aiming for a December 2026 premiere, replacing the current “Untitled Star Wars” movie on their upcoming schedule.

A novice screenwriter doesn’t necessarily imply that the film is being entirely rewritten from the ground up. Typically, whoever steps in will build upon the last draft and continue from there. However, given the movie’s past script challenges, some fans are apprehensive about the future of the Star Wars franchise. But Daisy Ridley’s latest statements appear to be quite encouraging.

What Daisy Ridley Is Saying About The New Film

Simultaneously with news of Steven Knight’s departure making headlines, an episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast featuring Daisy Ridley was released. During the interview, host Josh Horowitz inquired about the upcoming film. Ridley assured there were no issues with the project, expressing optimism by saying “We’re all good,” and anticipating positive progress soon.

I might have already seen something. There might be a day of when we’re, yeah, the next stages.

Although the specific date of Ridley’s interview isn’t known, as well as when Knight departed from the project, it remains a mystery. However, despite having the potential to delay the film substantially, Ridley chose not to diminish the movie’s expectations in any way.

It’s uncertain when the next Rey film will hit the screens, given that it might take quite some time for the script to finish. But based on indications, production seems to be progressing. If the end product turns out to be excellent, any wait would undoubtedly prove worthwhile.
