Ever since the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home in December 2021, fans have eagerly anticipated updates about the next installment. Now, after years of uncertainty, production on the film has finally started moving forward. Recently, Tom Holland confirmed that the sequel is indeed underway, and Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, has been enlisted to helm this new adventure.
According to Variety, Sony has announced that “Spider-Man 4” is scheduled for release on July 24, 2026. This release date is two months after the anticipated film, “Avengers: Doomsday.” It’s important to note that “Spider-Man 4” is not its final title yet. Interestingly, much like how “Spider-Man: Far From Home” debuted two months following “Avengers: Endgame,” “Spider-Man 4” will also follow in a similar fashion. In the year 2026, “Spider-Man 4” will be one of four Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films to hit the screens. Apart from “Avengers: Doomsday” opening on May 1st, Marvel Studios are planning to release movies on February 13th and November 6th in 2026 as well, but details about these films remain unknown at this time.
It’s worth noting that the release date of Spider-Man 4, which is on July 24, 2026, was initially reserved by Marvel Studios and Disney for a title they later removed from their schedule in August 2024. It appears they relinquished this slot to Sony Pictures, and they’ve known for quite some time that this July date would be for Spider-Man. The last weekend of July is particularly valuable to Marvel Studios because Deadpool & Wolverine set new box office records in that period earlier this year, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps are scheduled for July 25, 2025.

As a diehard fan, I can’t help but point out an exciting piece of news: In the summer of 2026, you’ll find me in three of the season’s biggest blockbusters! Just two months after the much-anticipated “Avengers: Doomsday,” I’ll star in “Spider-Man 4.” Interestingly, this movie will hit theaters a week after Christopher Nolan’s enigmatic film at Universal Pictures, where I’ll also be featured. This means that on two consecutive weekends, you’ll have not one, but two of my movies gracing the IMAX screens, as both “Spider-Man 4” and Nolan’s upcoming production will vie for those coveted spots.
2026 is when we can expect to see the release of Spider-Man 4, marking almost five years since Spider-Man: No Way Home graced our cinemas and made a splash at the box office. This gap between films is the longest for the live-action Spider-Man series since there was a five-year gap between Spider-Man 3 in 2007 and The Amazing Spider-Man in 2012. Despite Sony Pictures’ attempts to establish their own universe of Spider-Man related characters and villains, such as Morbius, Madame Web, Venom: The Last Dance, or Kraven the Hunter, these efforts haven’t been particularly successful.
