Ribero Is a Strong-Willed Triple Force in The Shadow Strays
Originally hailing from Semarang, Central Java, Ribero is a multitalented individual, known for modeling, singing, and acting. She first stepped into the world of acting at the tender age of 13 in the Indonesian film Susah Sinyal, where she impressed critics with her debut performance. This role earned her nominations for “Best Supporting Actress” at the Indonesian Box Office Movie Awards and “Best New Actress” at the Maya Awards. Subsequently, Ribero took on leading roles in various films and a web series before joining the cast of the Netflix romantic drama Love Like the Falling Rain. Since then, she has continued to act in numerous movies and web series, both as a main character and in supporting roles. As a musician, Ribero has released several singles and contributed to the soundtracks of two of her films.
In “The Shadow Strays”, Ribero ventures into fresh territory as she tackles the story of retribution laced with martial arts. Her character 13 is a determined and proficient dealer of death, driven by righteous anger yet fueled by bloodlust. A blend of John Wick’s lethal prowess and Bryan Mills from “Taken”, Ribero’s 13 possesses the razor-sharp accuracy of a seasoned assassin. Her fight sequences are intense and artfully designed, and Ribero executes each move with an intensity that is commendable.
13, still in training as a Shadow member, hasn’t quite reached the intimidating grimness that her older counterpart Umbra (portrayed by Hana Malasan) demands. This vulnerability provides 13 with an opportunity to form a bond with Monji (Aki Fikri), a tender act which sets into motion the brutal violence that unfolds in the latter stages of the film. Director Ribero masterfully balances the character’s soft and fierce aspects, resulting in a sympathetic yet deadly figure, akin to an avenging angel.
