Shah Rukh Khan ‘didn’t read the entire script’ of Kal Ho Naa Ho reveals Nikkhil Advani: ‘I know Karan has written…’

As a humble spectator of the enchanting world of cinema, I have been fortunate enough to witness the mesmerizing journey of Shah Rukh Khan, a man whose talent and charm know no bounds. But among his numerous captivating roles, ‘Aman’ from Kal Ho Naa Ho holds a special place in my heart.

Shah Rukh Khan has delivered many outstanding performances throughout his career, but among these, the character ‘Aman’ from Kal Ho Naa Ho stands out as one particularly close to his heart. In a recent disclosure, the movie’s director, Nikkhil Advani, shared that Khan didn’t read the entire script for the film; instead, he glanced through it after reading just the first page. This was because Khan had faith in Karan Johar’s writing and Advani’s direction.

Nikkhil Advani made his directorial debut in a movie featuring Shah Rukh Khan. Notably, Shah Rukh Khan had complete trust in him. In a chat on the Cyrus Says YouTube channel, he reminisced about the event by saying, “Shah Rukh requested Yash Johar, ‘I will star in another Dharma Productions film only if Nikkhil is the director.’

As a die-hard admirer, I must confess that my adoration for this filmmaker started way back when he was just an assistant director on the sets of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. Our bond grew stronger during those times, and I couldn’t help but have faith in his talent. Little did I know that my belief in him would prove to be a catalyst for his success. He began his career on a grand scale, thanks to the actor’s trust in him.

The director acknowledged the significant impact of King Khan and expressed, “I am deeply indebted to Shah Rukh — I owe him my entire directing career.” Furthermore, the director revealed that during that period, Khan was eager to delve into roles beyond love stories and they frequently talked about it on set.

Even though Karan Johar devised the storyline for the movie, he delegated the directorial duties to Nikkhil, which was a significant chance for him. Remarkably, the actor from Pathaan didn’t shy away from this opportunity, instead, he chose not to thoroughly read the script as he had faith in their vision.

Advani shared that Shah Rukh “looked over the first page, briefly scanned the midpoint, and then jumped to the final page. He didn’t go through the entire script from start to finish. Instead, he said something like, ‘Since Karan is the writer and you’re the director, I trust it will be a good production.’

2003’s Kal Ho Naa Ho continues to be a timeless cinematic gem, with Shah Rukh Khan’s portrayal of Aman leaving us in fits of laughter, moments of blushing, and tears as we watch his character become deeply etched in our memories. Over time, it turned into a monumental box office hit and garnered widespread critical praise.
