Blossoming in Rural Massachusetts

In her first foray into feature filmmaking, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Annie Baker pens and directs a movie that vividly portrays the ineffable sensation of a daughter distancing herself from her mother’s love. As Lacy’s intricate inner landscape gradually merges with her outer reality, she comes to terms with the fact that the world may not align with her previous perceptions. Moreover, her mother is no longer the idolized figure she once believed her to be. Stream Janet Planet starting November 1st.

Elf

Stream on Nov. 1

Under the guidance of director Jon Favreau, the heartwarming Christmas comedy titled Elf unfolds. The story revolves around Buddy (Will Ferrell), an unusually large elf who was raised at the North Pole by Papa Elf (Bob Newhart). Unbeknownst to him, he’s actually human and his biological father, Walter Hobbs (James Caan), is oblivious of his existence. After learning that Walter has been placed on Santa’s naughty list for being a bit of a Scrooge, Buddy embarks on a mission to locate him and transform his Christmas destiny. As he immerses himself in the city’s wonders, he crosses paths with Jovie (Zooey Deschanel), a disillusioned coworker whom he grows fond of almost instantly.

Released in 2003 to widespread acclaim, the movie “Elf” was a massive box office hit, earning approximately $229 million against a production budget of just $33 million. The film’s success even led to a Broadway musical adaptation titled “Elf: The Musical” in 2010 and an NBC stop-motion special called “Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas” in 2014. Often hailed as a modern holiday classic, “Elf” is known for its heartwarming and humorous storyline. If you haven’t seen it already, be sure to catch Will Ferrell’s hilarious performance when “Elf” streams on November 1st.

Jurassic Park Franchise

Stream on Nov. 1

As a die-hard Jurassic Park fan, I can’t help but reminisce about the iconic films that kicked off Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard’s blockbuster Jurassic World series. The classics – Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and Jurassic Park III – each weave a captivating tale of the genesis and fallout of a dinosaur-themed amusement park, engineered from the DNA of prehistoric creatures.

The Jurassic Park series will be available on Max starting November 1st, boasting a collective worldwide box office earnings of over $2.045 billion on a combined budget of $229 million. Known as one of the most legendary film franchises, Jurassic Park and its sequels deliver a thought-provoking message about the perils of unchecked human arrogance through their gripping narratives. Featuring captivating performances and an outstanding soundtrack, these films never disappoint when it comes to entertainment.

Goodfellas

Stream on Nov. 1

Under the guidance of Martin Scorsese, the movie titled “Goodfellas” follows the life story of mafia associate Henry Hill, portrayed by Ray Liotta, from 1955 to 1980. The film delves into the personal and professional aspects of Henry’s life, including his connections with his wife, Karen (Lorraine Bracco), and his associates in organized crime, Jimmy Conway (Robert De Niro) and Tommy DeVito (Joe Pesci). After engaging in a heist together, Tommy and Jimmy eliminate everyone else involved and aim to ascend the Mob hierarchy.

Although their achievement may lead to harmful consequences for Henry, this could potentially cause the former small-time gangster to betray them. The movie was nominated for six Academy Awards in 1991 across categories such as Best Film Editing, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director, and Best Picture. However, it only managed to secure a victory for Joe Pesci’s exceptional supporting role.
