Highlights from Phillips' Hong Kong Watch Auction: XIX

As a seasoned watch collector and connoisseur of timekeeping artistry, I can hardly contain my excitement for Phillips’ Hong Kong Watch Auction: XIX! With a life filled with countless hours spent admiring and appreciating these intricate masterpieces, this event promises to be an unparalleled experience.

For Phillips, November seems quite busy. They’re preparing for not one but two auctions – the Hong Kong Watch Auction: XIX and TOKI: Watch Auction. These events are being held in collaboration with The Lavish Attic and will showcase a variety of wristwatches along with rare and desirable clocks, making for an exciting lineup.

At the forefront of the clock collection are three distinctive items from Cartier. One is the Art Deco Clock made from a single block of rose quartz, which showcases Eastern-influenced elements and a mother-of-pearl dial. Another noteworthy piece is the La Pendule Écran Art Deco Clock, an uncommon collectible produced in a small quantity during the late 1920s. This clock stands out with its green jade and yellow gold construction and a contrasting translucent rock crystal dial.

Regarding the Modèle A Mystery Clock, its design is a blend that includes rock crystal, yellow gold, mother-of-pearl, onyx, and diamonds, artfully assembled into a captivating desk clock. The unique aspect lies in the appearance of the hands seemingly suspended within a clear crystal.

The highlighted watches on sale showcase a variety of masterpieces by renowned brands as well as up-and-coming independent designers. For example, there’s Patek Philippe’s Ref. 1518 yellow gold perpetual calendar from 1945, the Ref. 1463 pink gold chronograph dating back to 1959, and the Ref. 5213G-001 white gold minute repeating perpetual calendar from 2013.

Distinctive lots up for auction include a Rolex Ref. 6265 Oyster Cosmograph “Oman” dating back to approximately 1974, a one-of-a-kind Ornament Nouveau timepiece from Holthinrichs, and the Richard Mille RM59-01 Tourbillon Yohan Blake edition. This last item, along with a pair of running shoes autographed by the renowned athlete, will be auctioned off together.

These previously mentioned watches will be showcased for viewing in a worldwide tour featuring stops in Singapore, Taipei, Geneva, and Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Watch Auction: XIX is scheduled to take place at Phillips’ Asia headquarters from November 23-24, 2024. For details about the auction, please check out Phillips’ official website.
