When Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan were ‘scolded’ by Mamta Kulkarni for ‘ruining’ Karan Arjun dance steps; ‘Badi beizaati kharab ho gayi…’

As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for Bollywood history and behind-the-scenes stories, I find it fascinating to delve into the anecdotes that unfold on the sets of iconic films like Karan Arjun. The camaraderie, the creative tensions, and the sheer passion for their craft that the actors display are all elements that make these stories so captivating.

The classic movie “Karan Arjun,” starring Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, is set to return to cinemas on November 22, 2024. This film holds a special place in the hearts of fans due to its iconic soundtrack and memorable dialogue. An interesting anecdote from the making of the song “Bhangda Paale” reveals that their co-star Mamta Kulkarni expressed displeasure when she felt they were ruining the song, a moment Shah Rukh Khan still remembers with a sense of embarrassment.

Previously, on Salman Khan’s talk show Bigg Boss, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol made a guest appearance. While chatting, SRK discussed the sole movie they all starred in together as a trio. Looking back on their shared work experience, SRK reminisced about dancing behind Mamta during one scene that was director-approved, but the actress wasn’t fond of it.

The actor went on to share that Kulkarni criticized their dance steps as poor, and they made mistakes in the song, yet she performed excellently. He revealed that he and Salman were off to the side when the actress whistled sharply at them and made a signaling gesture. Initially, both stars assumed she wasn’t addressing them in such a manner.

Despite facing the other way initially, Salman managed to convince him that Mamta was summoning him. He explained, “So, I went over there since she had made it quite clear, ‘Come and rehearse as I’m getting my steps right and you all are doing terribly wrong.’

SRK and Salman found themselves surprised by Mamta’s criticism since they had been imagining themselves dancing like “Prabhudeva” and “Michael Jackson” in their minds. As King Khan put it, “We were overjoyed but her reprimand felt like a severe insult afterwards.

Afterward, the actor confessed that they would often deceive by staying awake throughout the night and practicing until 5 a.m., focusing on scenes scheduled for shooting the following day. Remarkably, the next day they managed to execute the move correctly while their partner made an error instead.

Directed by Rakesh Roshan, Karan Arjun was released in 1995.
