Aubrey Plaza Tells Trump Rally Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe to “Go F*** Yourself” in Response to His “Disgusting” Puerto Rico Joke

As a proud half-Puerto Rican individual, I stand with Aubrey Plaza and countless others who have spoken out against the offensive and degrading comments made by Tony Hinchcliffe about Puerto Rico. As someone whose family hails from the beautiful island, I can’t help but feel a personal connection to this issue. It’s disheartening to see such ignorance and disrespect for my heritage, especially when it comes from someone in a position of influence.

Aubrey Plaza, a performer of Puerto Rican descent, has recently responded to comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s contentious joke concerning Puerto Rico, which was made at Donald Trump’s event in Madison Square Garden on Sunday.

At the WSJ Magazine Innovator Awards on Tuesday evening, the actress from “Agatha All Along” expressed a desire to swiftly address the racially insensitive joke that surfaced during a Trump rally concerning Puerto Rico, a place where much of her family originates.

Fortunately, my dear grandma wasn’t present to overhear such a repulsive comment,” Plaza stated, as per the video from the event. “However, if she were still alive, I believe she would tell Tony Hinchcliffe, ‘Go take a hike.’ And yes, The Wall Street Journal is welcome to use that quote.

During a Sunday evening gathering in New York, Hinchcliffe, who was known for offensive and discriminatory remarks towards Latinos, Jews, and African Americans, remarked, “Perhaps you’re not aware, but there’s currently an island of waste drifting in the ocean – it’s colloquially referred to as Puerto Rico.

I swiftly faced criticism from Kamala Harris’ Democratic presidential campaign, along with Puerto Rican celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Ricky Martin. They quickly took to social media, sharing clips of Harris’ campaign addressing Puerto Rican voters and outlining her plans for aiding the territory.

fellow Puerto Rican Marc Anthony, like many others, voiced his continued backing for Kamala Harris after her remarks sparked discussion on Sunday evening, having previously endorsed her.

On Mondays, I tune into “The View,” and this week, the insightful Sunny Hostin weighed in on Trump’s actions, responding directly to Hinchcliffe’s recent comments from a gamer’s perspective.

A person of Puerto Rican descent wants to express thoughts about the cherished island where their family originates. They feel that Puerto Rico isn’t in good condition, but they remind Donald Trump, we are Americans. As Americans, we know how to clean up messes, Donald Trump. The mess that has been accumulating since 2016, and that’s you, Donald Trump. Lastly, my fellow Puerto Ricans, the cleanup day is scheduled for November 5th, 2024. Make sure you remember it.

Variety captured video of Plaza speaking at the event.

Previously, Plaza discussed incorporating her heritage into her character portrayals, mentioning it during an interview with Time magazine for their 2024 “Latino Leaders” feature. She said, “I have a unique background compared to many other Latin American actors because not everyone is aware that I am half Puerto Rican. This is something I always make a point to share and use in my work.
