Idris Elba to Star in Trucker Action Movie ‘Hammer Down’ for ‘Oppenheimer’ Producer Charles Roven

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent navigating through action-packed virtual worlds, the news of Idris Elba starring in “Hammer Down” has me absolutely thrilled! With his charismatic presence and knack for playing tough characters, he’s undeniably one of the best choices to bring this trucking action hero to life.

It’s time for Idris Elba to take on a new challenge! He will not only act but also produce a high-octane film titled “Hammer Down“. This action feature is significant as it marks the directorial debut of Simon Hatt, who has previously worked on productions for Marvel Studios and DC.

Longtime film producer Charles Roven, who recently received his first Oscar this year for the Best Picture winner “Oppenheimer”, is working on a new project titled “Hammer Down” through his production company Atlas Entertainment, along with Madison Weireter from the same firm. Idris Elba and Gina Carter (known for “See How They Run”) are also producing this film under their banner 22 Summers. Black Bear will be presenting the project at the upcoming American Film Market next week.

Previously, filmmaker Hatt directed a short film titled “Hammer Down”, featuring Chris Sullivan from “This Is Us” portraying a widowed trucker known as Hammer Down. Abigail Dylan Harrison, known for her role in “The Affair”, played the part of Hammer Down’s young daughter who accompanied him on his journey to deliver a puzzling parcel. This project held special significance for Hatt, as he himself grew up with a truck driver father in the U.K.

The story is now expanded as a feature with the following logline:

Mac (Elba) is the best at what he does, driving a big rig truck across the country with a “no questions asked” policy about the goods he transports. When he takes his tenacious teenage daughter along for a job, they are tracked and attacked by a relentless group of criminals that will stop at nothing to secure the consignment he has been entrusted to deliver. Pursued by both criminals and the police, Mac and his daughter must work together to prevent the cargo falling into dangerous hands and survive to live another day.

In this upcoming movie, Elba, Roven, and Hatt are reuniting as they had previously collaborated on James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad.” Hatt started off as a director’s assistant, learning the ropes from renowned filmmakers like Matthew Vaughn and Gunn. He has spent the last ten years working on various Gunn projects, such as the “Guardians of the Galaxy” trilogy, “Brightburn,” and “Peacemaker.” Starting off as an assistant director on the first “Guardians,” Hatt climbed his way up to become executive producer for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.” After leaving the superhero genre, he decided to venture out independently. Currently, Hatt is represented by UTA and Underground.

After receiving an Emmy nomination for his work in the Apple series “Hijack”, which is planning a second season, Idris Elba is also lending his voice to the upcoming “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”. Additionally, he’s currently involved with Kathryn Bigelow’s next project.

The director behind the Dark Knight trilogy, Roven, will soon release the film titled Mercy, which stars Rebecca Ferguson and Chris Pratt, under the banner of Amazon MGM Studios in the coming year.
