After Watching The New Daredevil: Born Again Footage, I Have A Big Question About Wilson Fisk And What’s Happened To Him Since Echo

As a seasoned Marvel gamer with over two decades of comic book and cinematic universe immersion under my belt, I find myself questioning the healing process of Wilson Fisk’s left eye in the upcoming “Daredevil: Born Again.” The footage that surfaced today has piqued my curiosity, as Fisk’s seemingly healed eye is a plot point that demands an explanation.

In the early hours of today, the initial glimpses of the TV series “Daredevil: Born Again“, set to air in 2025 as part of Marvel’s television lineup, were unveiled. Although I’m excitedly counting down until a full trailer for “Born Again” is released, it was still enjoyable to catch a glimpse of this series that underwent significant creative changes in September 2023, as announced back in May 2022. Upon rewatching the footage several times, I find myself wondering about the Kingpin (played by Wilson D’Onofrtio), specifically, how his injured eye has healed since Echo.

In the finale of Hawkeye, Maya Lopez, Fisk’s adoptive niece, shot him in revenge for his plan to have Clint Barton kill her during his Ronin days. Although it seemed like she had killed Fisk at that moment, he was actually only blinded in one eye. By the end of Echo, Fisk’s injured eye remained a problem when he decided to run for mayor of New York. However, as you can see in the screenshot from the Daredevil: Born Again footage, his left eye appears to be healed now.

After Learning that the Marvel Boss Likened Daredevil: Born Again to Game of Thrones, I Can’t Help But Contemplate What the MCU’s Equivalent of the Red Wedding Might Look Like.

The unveiling of the muse for Daredevil: Born Again sparked reactions from the characters’ creators, and I am thrilled about what his inclusion might imply for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In the Marvel comics, Kingpin (Wilson Fisk) lost his sight when Maya Lopez shot him, but later received a transplant to regain his vision. Is this the same scenario in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? This explanation seems straightforward, though it makes one ponder why Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin didn’t opt for such a procedure earlier. Following his five-month recovery, did he prioritize reconciling with Maya over undergoing eye surgery, given how complex his feelings towards her character were? Despite the twisted nature of his affection, it wouldn’t be out of character for him to act this way.

Despite being in a superhero setting, I’m hoping for a more extraordinary reason behind Wilson Fisk regaining his two eyes. Considering the gritty realism of Daredevil: Born Again, it’s unlikely we’ll see any magical elements. A high-tech explanation could be in order, such as Fisk receiving a mechanical eye after Echo, which appears normal but is equipped with unique capabilities. Alternatively, he might have been given a regenerative serum that restored his eye entirely.

It’s possible I’m dwelling excessively, but I believe the issue of Kingpin regaining the use of his eye will be addressed in “Daredevil: Born Again.” Given that some viewers might not have watched “Echo,” it seems unlikely that the aftermath of Fisk getting shot and losing sight in that eye would be ignored. After all, such a significant event deserves more than a casual mention.
