As a devoted follower of Bollywood, I must confess that I’ve always been captivated by the unique dynamics between the industry’s star-studded families. The story of Chunky and Ananya Panday is one such tale that truly resonates with me.
One of the highly respected actresses in the film industry today is Ananya Panday, whose talent clearly runs in the family. Over the years, she’s showcased her abilities and solidified her position as an actress. Recently, her father, Chunky Panday, disclosed that they often had disagreements to help her prioritize chasing stardom ahead of becoming a mainstream actor.
In a chat with Mid Day, Chunky Panday admitted that at first, driven by his gut feelings, he encouraged Ananya Panday to focus on becoming a star. But now, as she’s earning accolades for her work in movies like CTRL and Call Me Bae, he feels vindicated for having been incorrect in his initial assessment.
Originally, he stated, “I would argue with her because I thought she should do mainstream films and she’d counter, ‘Dad, I want to act.’ I’d retort, ‘You’ll be an actress when you’re older; first, you need to become a star.’ Now, it’s dawning on me that maybe she was correct.
This year, I had the pleasure of being a guest on Cyrus Broacha’s podcast, Cyrus Says. During our conversation, we delved into my professional journey, and I shared that I’m going through a unique situation I call “reverse nepotism” in my current phase.
He explained that while nepotism usually involves the children of actors becoming actors themselves, he has noticed that since his daughter became a star, he has been receiving a lot of work.
Known for playing Aakhri Pasta in the Housefull comedy series, Chunky openly shared his astonishment and joy at the growing interest, revealing that it fills him with immense pride. Chunky confessed that he’s never enjoyed his success as much as he does now, perhaps because he was too preoccupied during his own journey to stardom.
In the 2022 movie Liger, Ananya and Chunky Panday acted together, with Chunky playing her character’s father. After working together, Chunky, who is 61 years old, mentioned that they were competing to be better, but he also noted that she will always be his little girl and would retain an edge in their relationship.
A while back, Ananya openly praised her father’s extensive film career during a conversation with IANS. She acknowledged his dedication and efforts to build a reputation and gain recognition within the industry. Furthermore, she expressed a sense of pride in being his daughter and saw no cause for embarrassment about it.
