As a dedicated follower of Bollywood, I’ve had the privilege to witness the journey of some extraordinary filmmakers, and Kabir Khan is undoubtedly one of them. His tales, woven with cultural threads, have touched millions of hearts and left an indelible mark on the Indian cinematic landscape.
Kabir Khan is well-respected in the film industry as a director of many popular blockbusters. Lately, he looked back on old times and shared a funny story about not meeting Aditya Chopra from Yash Raj Films regarding Kabul Express. He remembered an amusing moment when people speculated that Yash Chopra had made up a fictional character named Aditya Chopra to frighten others, and there was uncertainty if he was real at all.
During a chat with Sucharita Tyagi, Kabir mentioned that he reached out to multiple production houses for Kabul Express, excluding Yash Raj Films, because he believed they wouldn’t take interest in such a film. He also recounted a notorious jest about Aditya Chopra being nonexistent.
He said, “So, there was one studio that I did not go to, which was Yash Raj Films, because there was a joke that Aditya Chopra doesn’t exist; he’s just being created by Yash Chopra to scare people.”
Later on, Kabir reminisced about the time he met Aditya Chopra, sharing that when he walked into the office, a woman told him that Aditya was already there and ready to see him.
In a striking recollection, he found himself entering the office of esteemed filmmaker Aditya Chopra, who was polishing his glasses as he stood behind his desk. Upon eye contact, Aditya commended Kabir’s script, expressing deep emotion and inquiring about when they could commence production on the movie.
In the initial stages, it was made clear by the director based in New York that his plans were open and straightforward. When inquiring about the possibility of bringing on a writer, Aditya voiced doubts, explaining that he preferred Kabir to generate precisely what had already been penned down.
Consequently, it was by fate that Kabir took up the role of a writer, and he shared the story of what transpired following his experience with Kabul Express.
Khan is well-known in the movie world for crafting distinctive films like Kabul Express, Ek Tha Tiger, New York, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Chandu Champion, and more. He stands out by skillfully weaving compelling narratives with cultural elements, which has won him praise from critics and a top spot among India’s most esteemed directors.
