Emily In Paris’ Lucas Bravo Is Probably Leaving The Show, And He’s Going Out Talking Smack About The Series Turning His Character Into ‘Guacamole’

As a devoted fan of Emily in Paris, I must admit that the latest season had its ups and downs, but one character who seemed to be struggling more than others was Gabriel, played by Lucas Bravo. Having watched every episode since the show’s debut, I felt like I could relate to his frustrations as his character became increasingly melancholic over the course of four seasons.

The Netflix lineup for 2024 was jam-packed with fresh content, and one of those additions was Season 4 of “Emily in Paris.” In these new installments, we followed Emily’s journey as she navigated her ongoing escapades in the City of Love, while love triangles emerged within the resolution of previous ones. However, it appears that one-third of the current love triangle may be disappearing from “Emily in Paris” Season 5, as Lucas Bravo, who portrays Gabriel, has hinted he might not reprise his role for the next chapter of the tale.

What Lucas Bravo Has Said About Potentially Leaving Emily In Paris

More recently, Bravo shared some insights about his experience on the show with IndieWire. Initially, he admired and identified aspects of himself in his Emily in Paris character, but as time passed, he’s found himself distancing due to the choices the character has made – using an analogy of Gabriel gradually being transformed into guacamole by the writers over four seasons.

In Season 1, there was a strong resemblance between us. However, as they started to make him oblivious to his surroundings and the dynamics, constantly portraying him as a victim, lost in translation, and unaware of what’s happening around him, being manipulated by everyone, it became less enjoyable for me to film or watch a character I cherish deeply, who had given me so much, gradually transform into something resembling mashed avocado.

Bravo repeatedly emphasized his efforts to infuse depth into the character, acknowledging that the actors face limited freedom in their performances. As a result, he often found himself questioning if he should carry on with the series, given the strict adherence to scripted lines.

I’m pondering whether to join Season 5, as my agreement concludes at the end of Season 4. I’m eager to find out if Gabriel will revert to his lively, mischievous, vivacious personality that he once had. Spending three seasons portraying him as melancholic, sad, depressed, and lost has become less enjoyable.

It’s not that I disapprove, but it’s fair to say that “Emily in Paris” on Netflix is quite an enjoyable series to binge-watch, and it’s mainly recognized for its romantic comedy vibe. However, among the entire cast of the show, Gabriel has certainly been portrayed as a character who appears more melancholic, especially during Season 4.

The actor added that he feels affection for everyone involved in the show and the series as a whole, but he’s uncertain whether he can continue if his character’s storyline heads in this particular direction.

I really enjoy both the series and its cast members. Admittedly, sometimes I feel like I should express more appreciation than just stating my love for it, because when you cherish something, you yearn for it to excel. To be honest, there have been moments when I’ve felt a bit annoyed with how the character is developing, but I’m keeping an open mind about its future progression. After all, the show still has episodes left to air.

Recently, the actor has been making more comments like these. In fact, he recently gave an interview with French newspaper Le Figaro (via New York Post) and expressed that the series no longer excites or inspires him. He also mentioned his discomfort with being just a piece in a machine that doesn’t acknowledge the intelligence of viewers. Furthermore, he believes that the show’s portrayal of love is quite outdated.

As a fan, I find that the core of everything lies in poor communication. It feels quite antiquated. Nowadays, the younger generation openly shares their feelings and tackles them head-on. I wish Gabriel could regain some sparkle and eloquence.

To be frank, I find myself nodding in agreement that Gabriel could benefit from some changes. For anyone who might need a refresher, let’s delve into his current storyline in the series.

What’s Going On With The Character Of Gabriel On The Show

Lucas Bravo mentioned that Gabriel is currently facing some difficult circumstances – (just a heads up if you’re not completely updated!) Emily finds herself drawn to Gabriel eventually, and they do explore a relationship together, but it ultimately fails when they struggle to balance their relationship with Gabriel’s efforts to support Camille, who he thinks is expecting a child.

During their holiday break, instead of traveling together, Gabriel abandons Emily on a mountain to pursue Camille. It dawns on Emily that Gabriel values Camille’s safety over hers due to the fact she carries his child. Consequently, she chooses to bring their relationship to an end. This parting isn’t amicable given that he had left her in a precarious situation as an inexperienced skier on the mountain.

Currently, we’re aware that Camille isn’t actually pregnant due to the surprising mid-season revelation of a false positive. However, the situation has become complicated and chaotic, as the relationship seems to have reached its end.

Camille chooses to relocate and establish a family independently via adoption. Somehow, Emily ends up with another man – Marcello, who assisted her during a ski trip, residing in Rome while she was temporarily employed by her company there – this leaves Gabriel in Paris.

In the final episode of Season 4 for the series “Emily in Paris”, it’s revealed that Gabriel is preparing to travel to Rome in an attempt to pursue Emily further. However, with these events unfolding, it’s uncertain what the future may hold.

When immersed in Emily in Paris Season 4, one of my main concerns revolved around the character Gabriel. Given this, it’s understandable that the actor might share similar feelings. However, I can’t help but wonder how the storyline would unfold if Gabriel mysteriously disappeared following that dramatic finale. We’ll have to wait and see if Lucas Bravo reappears when Season 5 rolls around!
