As a seasoned gamer who’s had the privilege of traversing through various digital landscapes, I must say that Kokoroko’s “Get the Message” EP is like a breath of fresh air in the realm of music. This UK-based octet has managed to weave together a tapestry of sounds that echoes the vibrant diversity of my own gaming worlds.
After wrapping up an exhausting trip across the US and Canada, and with another long stint in Europe on the horizon, I find myself as part of UK-based octet Kokoroko, excitedly sharing our brand new Get the Message EP. This release features four tracks that each offer something unique, providing a compact yet diverse snapshot of our innovative sound and eclectic musical inspirations.
The tune “Higher” offers a relaxed, horn-infused rhythm perfect for a peaceful highway drive. On the other hand, “Sweeter Than” embodies its title with Kokoroko’s characteristic warmth and harmonized voices. “My Prayer” kicks off as the most laid-back and melancholic track before escalating into an uplifting, victorious finale. Lastly, “Three Piece Suit,” which serves as the project’s final track and lead single, features vocalist Azekel on a bouncy beat, resulting in a song that combines blessings celebration and salute to their historical influences. The EP’s artwork was designed by Alaska Alaska—the creative agency founded by Virgil Abloh—and artist Luci Pina.
[Get the Message] serves as a fresh direction for us as a collective,” Sheila Maurice-Grey shared with TopMob during a recent interview. “The four tracks are remarkably diverse, yet they harmoniously form a unified project. Interestingly enough, we were initially composing songs for our upcoming album. ‘Higher’ was the first tune we penned, and it turned out that these particular four songs sounded fantastic as a standalone project.
