Chip Gaines Is Turning 50, And Is It Cool To Say He’s In His Zaddy Era Yet?

As someone who has grown up watching Chip Gaines transform homes and lives on Fixer Upper, it’s hard to believe that he’s turning 50. It feels like just yesterday we were welcoming him into our living rooms with his infectious energy and enthusiasm. But here we are, a decade later, and he’s still going strong.

50th birthday is approaching for Chip Gaines, the well-known TV host, on November 14th. In a recent interview with his wife Joanna Gaines on Drew Barrymore’s show, he discussed this milestone. Despite not being overly excited about what lies ahead, it makes me wonder: Can we say that he’s entered his “dad” or “silver fox” phase yet?

He’s not the only celebrity approaching or who just hit the big birthday milestone. Elizabeth Banks had a funny post for her birthday after hitting 50 earlier this year. Jimmy Fallon just hit 50. Barrymore herself is also turning the big 5-0 coming up, but she and the reality star have very different outlooks about what the birthday means. In the former child actor’s case, she’s kind of excited and open to what’s next, and she’s enthusiastic about turning 50. Gaines, however, is struggling a bit more, as he mentioned in a clip.

I feel opposite. I don’t know there’s a real obvious [answer]. I guess in my mind’s eye Peter Pan never turned 50, you know what I mean. When you’ve got this Peter Pan syndrome and you’ve always evaluated yourself through this childlike lens, then it’s like, ‘How does that sort of co-exist with a 50-year-old reality?’ I dunno. I feel sort of like, conflicted.

It’s quite unexpected that Chip appears uninterested in the celebrity’s birthday achievement given his lively and upbeat demeanor on television. After all, he’s often characterized as a jovial “Peter Pan” type, and he’s known for his positive energy – as you can see here, he’s always full of life. Moreover, he seems to have a wonderful personal life, having recently reached a significant milestone with Joanna, and his professional life is thriving too, as he mentioned during his conversation with Ms. Barrymore.

Currently, I’d like to express it this way: Right now, I want to share that I’m deeply and passionately in love with my five wonderful children. For the past 21 years, I’ve been deeply in love with Jo.

Having been a dedicated fan of Fixer Upper since its debut and closely following Chip Gaines’ career post-HGTV, this rapid turn of events feels quite astonishing. It’s almost unbelievable that over 11 years have elapsed since the show first aired on HGTV, given how young Chip Gaines was at that time. Though he appears to have aged gracefully like fine wine, it’s challenging for me to fully grasp just how swiftly the years have flown by, which is why I can empathize with his perspective.

In a different phrasing, let me say this: Contrastingly, two terms – “Zaddy” – are significant for Christopher Meloni at 63. He has wholeheartedly accepted these straightforward words, and he’s flourishing. All it took was his appearance on the set of Law & Order and donning pants that highlighted his attributes. Our sympathies go out to his family, who have had to contend with an influx of Meloni “zaddy” memes. Yet, I must confess, I hold no regrets about this turn of events.

And Meloni isn’t the only Zaddy out there! Just look at Stanley Tucci, as Emily Blunt has reminded us. Or Pedro Pascal, who isn’t a dad, but certainly has that zad(dy) factor.

Similar to Chip Gaines, who has consistently emphasized fitness throughout his life, participating in marathons and maintaining physique while working. He’s quite adept at donning a toolbelt on screen (and interestingly, even ran a marathon wearing a tool belt once) and a suit coat during interviews. Perhaps, similar to Meloni, he might want to fully embody the “zaddiness” of his life in the future?

Bring on the memes.
