I’m Excited Outer Banks Was Renewed For A Fifth And Final Season, But I’m Worried About What That Means For The Season 4 Finale

As a devoted fan who’s been following the Outer Banks saga since its inception, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions about the series’ renewal for Season 5. On one hand, I’m thrilled that we get to spend more time with the Pogues, their camaraderie, and the thrilling treasure hunt that has kept us hooked. On the other hand, as someone who’s been through the rollercoaster of cliffhangers and heart-wrenching moments, I can’t help but worry about what’s in store for Season 4’s finale.

The Outer Banks TV show is back on schedule for Part 2 of Season 4 on November 7th, 2024, ensuring more adventures with our favorite group, the Pogues. Initially, some fans like myself feared that this season might be the last, following Chase Stokes’ emotional post and behind-the-scenes images in May. But fortunately, it seems we won’t have to bid farewell to the gang just yet. Although I am thrilled about another season for the popular Netflix teen drama, I can’t help but ponder what the renewal could imply for the Season 4 finale.

The OBX Instagram broke the news about the renewal yesterday with a typed note from the show’s creators. This was followed shortly after by another sappy Stokes’ Instagram post, where he reflected on the life-changing experience and how excited he is to get to be John B. one last time. He ended the caption with a heartwarming message:

It’s always gonna be Pogues 4 Life.

Of course, supporters of the show couldn’t help but pour praises into the comment section following the early renewal announcement. Though I must confess that my initial excitement subsided, a hint of apprehension began to surface instead.

It’s likely, given the start of a new season for Outer Banks, that the Pogues will encounter additional hurdles in the concluding episodes of Season 4. This, of course, implies that we’re probably heading towards a huge cliffhanger near the end – one that might remind us of when the team found themselves shipwrecked on an island.

Let me clarify, I’m thrilled that we’re about to embark on more Pogue adventures. However, I had high hopes that Season 4, Part 2 would finally bring a conclusion to this ongoing storyline and give OBX fans what they’ve longed for: the Pogues retaining a treasure for an extended period. Sadly, it seems unlikely now, given OBX’s pattern of stretching out the treasure hunt across several season-long arcs. I guess the Pogues still have some more time in the chase ahead.

Hearing about the upcoming renewal adds a layer of concern for me regarding the future of some cherished pairings, such as JJ and Kiara’s, which are currently facing challenges. It is worth noting that a new season often brings increased tension, and one effective method to intensify character interactions could be by ending significant relationships.

It’s worth noting that the future of the Pogues seems more uncertain than ever following the events of Season 4, Part 1. It’s unlikely that they will all receive a happy resolution at the end of this season, considering another one is on the way. This uncertainty is causing me quite a bit of anxiety. I’m not suggesting that the writers of OBX will certainly kill off one of them, but I also can’t rule out the possibility. At least we can be fairly certain that John B. won’t meet his end, given his knack for escaping life-threatening situations, and Stokes’ recent Instagram post hints at his return for the final season.

The exact date for Season 5 of Outer Banks to debut on Netflix’s upcoming lineup remains uncertain, but let’s hope it doesn’t take too long. In the meantime, fans can enjoy all four previously released seasons by subscribing to Netflix and streaming them online. Mark your calendars for November 7th, as the final five episodes of Season 4 will be available then.
