OldSchool RuneScape is celebrating its anniversary on mobile with brand new features

  • OldSchool RuneScape is celebrating six years on mobile
  • And to commemorate the occasion, Jagex is adding a whole host of new features
  • The brand-new UI smooths out virtually everything

As a gamer who vividly remembers the golden days of RuneScape during my youth, I can wholeheartedly say that the six-year mobile anniversary of OldSchool RuneScape is a momentous occasion. The new UI overhaul not only enhances the overall gaming experience but also brings it in line with its desktop counterpart.

Contrary to the general view that most Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPGs) are considered niche or for “nerds”, there’s arguably one exception that challenges this stereotype, and it’s none other than the original RuneScape. This popular, free-to-play MMO was a significant part of even the least dedicated individuals’ childhoods, and it would be challenging to find someone who hadn’t given it a try at least once.

Now, it’s the retro edition of OldSchool RuneScape that’s marking its 6th anniversary on mobile devices with a significant user interface upgrade. If this sounds dull to you, then perhaps you’re not part of the dedicated, nostalgic community this update is designed for.

From now on, the update matches the desktop version with refined side menus, expandable sections, shortcut keys, and a fresh chat feature. If you’ve felt slightly frustrated by the mobile interface of OSR, perhaps this is an excellent opportunity for you to revisit and try it out again.

The classic version of RuneScape has struggled somewhat in terms of its user interface over time. However, OldSchool RuneScape has made significant strides in addressing these issues while still maintaining the original’s spirit. It might not be a groundbreaking change, but based on my personal playtime, I can confirm that many players, particularly MMORPG enthusiasts, place great importance on a well-designed interface, rivaling their expectations for innovative gameplay elements.
