Kevin Feige Confirms X-Men Will Be Part of MCU Future Post-Secret Wars

As a seasoned moviegoer with decades of comic book-inspired films under my belt, I must say the prospect of the X-Men officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is nothing short of exhilarating. Having grown up on the original X-Men comics and their subsequent film adaptations, it’s a delight to witness the merging of these two iconic universes.

It appears that Kevin Feige may be implying that the X-Men will officially become a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the release of “Avengers: Secret Wars” in 2024. This year has been significant for the X-Men as “X-Men ’97” made its debut on Disney+ and was met with widespread acclaim, rejuvenating interest in these mutant characters. The movies “Deadpool” and “Wolverine” featured several heroes from the 20th Century Fox era of Marvel films, including those from the X-Men series, as they worked together to protect their universe. While Deadpool remains in his own universe (Earth 10005), the MCU has been laying the groundwork for mutants by introducing characters like Ms. Marvel and Namor, and “Captain America: Brave New World” will introduce the fictional metal Adamantium to the franchise.

At D23 Brazil, it’s anticipated that Marvel will reveal some updates, and before the event, Feige shared insights with Omelete about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). He subtly hinted at the X-Men’s potential influence on the franchise in the long run. This seems to indicate that while Marvel Studios is currently concentrating on wrapping up the Multiverse Saga, the X-Men are expected to have a major impact beyond that point. It appears that an official announcement about an upcoming X-Men project might not occur until after “Avengers: Secret Wars” hits theaters in May 2027. Feige stated:

As we planned Avengers: Endgame in the past, our goal was reaching the climax of our storyline, only to begin anew afterwards. This time, as we journey towards Secret Wars, we have a clear understanding of what lies ahead. We’ll navigate this story up until then and beyond. The X-Men play a crucial role in shaping that future.

It appears that Marvel Studios has scheduled release dates for some exciting new projects. These include July 23 and November 5, 2027, as well as February 18, May 5, and November 10, 2028. These dates are likely to see the introduction of the MCU’s X-Men, marking the beginning of Phase 7, which could be titled the Mutant Saga or Dawn of X, reminiscent of the highly praised X-Men relaunch in 2019 that rekindled interest in these characters.

As a diehard Marvel fan, I’ve always been captivated by the Avengers, but let’s not forget about the X-Men who ruled the roost at Marvel Comics for nearly four decades! They were the top sellers, giving birth to numerous spin-offs such as the New Mutants, X-Force, X-Factor, Excalibur, and many more. The 20th Century Fox films merely touched upon the profound X-Men universe lore. Although some fans might think the MCU is running out of stories to adapt, introducing the X-Men into the mix opens up a treasure trove of possibilities that could potentially sustain multiple phases of movies and TV series for years on end.

As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation as the Fantastic Four prepares to make their grand entrance in the MCU during Phase 6. It appears that Avengers: Secret Wars might be paving the way for a subtle revamp of the franchise, a move that would seamlessly integrate the X-Men and Fantastic Four into the MCU’s history as if they had always been here. This is quite an ironic turn of events, considering these two franchises were initially barred from joining the MCU due to 20th Century Fox holding their film rights. Now, it seems these iconic properties are set to contribute significantly to the future of our beloved universe. The year 2028, marking the 20th anniversary of the MCU’s inception, seems an ideal time for the X-Men to usher in a new era, serving as a celebratory milestone and a fresh beginning for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
