Anthony Mackie Takes Credit for Ryan Gosling's Career

As a passionate fan of Anthony Mackie and his illustrious career, I must say that watching his recent Entertainment Weekly video titled “Anthony Mackie’s Memories” was nothing short of a delightful journey through his filmography. The man has an incredible knack for storytelling, weaving together amusing anecdotes and reflecting on his journey in Hollywood while also playing a part in elevating other talented actors to stardom.

As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I’d put it this way: In a recent video called “Anthony Mackie’s Memories,” Anthony Mackie himself has boldly stated that the new Captain America is responsible for making quite a few fellows shine in the spotlight.

Could you be referring to the man, Ryan Gosling, who is said to have performed the Mackie Bump in the Entertainment Weekly video? This is the same Ryan Gosling who was a member of The Mickey Mouse Club, starred in Are You Afraid of the Dark?, played Young Hercules, and gained fame for his role in The Notebook.

Why Does Anthony Mackie Say He Made Ryan Gosling Famous?

In a delightful and amusing 14-minute video brimming with captivating tales, the actor discusses an extensive portion of his filmography by recounting unique, never-before-heard stories from behind the scenes on diverse sets. He also contemplates his successful career and the fame he’s bestowed upon others.

Mackie jokes, gesturing towards the poster of their 2013 film, “Gangster Squad“, saying, “You might not know this, but I was instrumental in making him a household name.” He adds, “In fact, we made his acting debut together in that movie.

“That boy is wild. True story — ask him!” – Anthony Mackie

2006’s movie “Half Nelson” wasn’t Ryan Gosling’s debut film; he had already appeared in “The Notebook” (released in 2004) and “Remember the Titans” (a 2000 production). However, Anthony Mackie isn’t entirely incorrect either. While Gosling had been acting before, it was his role in “Half Nelson” that earned him an Oscar nomination, significantly boosting his career and solidifying his status as a serious actor.

However, just because Gosling didn’t act like the soon-to-be, thrice-Oscar-nominated actor that we know, according to Mackie, doesn’t mean he wasn’t one. In fact, Mackie claims that during filming for The Fall Guy, Gosling was a bit unconventional, even by his standards, as he shared an improvised scene involving a wild cat.

As a movie enthusiast, I’d rephrase it as: “We filmed that scene in New York City. One day, we were in Brooklyn, hanging out by the docks, and suddenly, a stray cat appeared,” Mackie recounts in the video. “Nobody knew where this cat had come from, no one checked to see if it was neutered, and nobody seemed to wonder about its origins. I couldn’t help but wonder, where did this cat hail from?

He went on to add that, in a moment that ended up on screen, “Ryan picks up the cat, nuzzles it, and starts rubbing the cat. And I’m like, ‘Yo, you’re gonna catch something!’ That cat was nasty. It was like mangy. It looked like a creature in the ‘Thriller’ video with Michael Jackson. That’s how it was walking.”

Still in disbelief, I couldn’t help but exclaim, ‘He actually grabbed it! Yes, he picked that up! That kid sure is adventurous. Just ask him yourself!’

The whole video is a delightful watch — Anthony Mackie has truly been in so many films over the years, you’d be forgiven for forgetting the totality of his lengthy resume. But you wouldn’t be forgiven for not checking out the clip above, because who doesn’t love charming behind-the-scenes stories that tell on other actors he’s worked with? One even involves crossing an international border on a camel!

Take that, Spider-Man!
