As an admirer of Keke Palmer, I am truly inspired by her resilience and strength as she shares her experiences in her upcoming memoir, “Master of Me: The Secret to Controlling Your Narrative.” Her ability to rise above adversity and maintain her dignity is nothing short of extraordinary.
Actress, singer, and television personality Keke Palmer is returning to the publishing industry with her new memoir, published by Macmillan. Known for works like the “Southern Belle Insults” series on Amazon Original Stories and her first memoir, “I Don’t Belong to You: Quiet the Noise and Find Your Voice,” Palmer is using her hard-earned voice as an entertainer to discuss challenging experiences in her career, aligning with her previous memoir’s theme. The star of ‘Nope’ has had a multifaceted career spanning various fields, from working with Disney to Broadway direction, so it’s no surprise that she’s faced some tough situations during her journey.
The renowned world figure’s forthcoming memoir and self-improvement guide, titled “Mastering My Own Narrative: The Art of Self-Governance“, delves deeper into the topic of personal freedom as she recounts challenging episodes in her professional journey. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, it was disclosed that Palmer’s memoir recollects an instance when Scream Queens creator Ryan Murphy allegedly criticized her harshly and labelled her “unprofessional” during a disagreement over scheduling for the show. The actress from Scream Queens clarified that she had a pre-arranged business commitment on her day off, and when production asked her to be on set instead, she declined to alter her plans. This decision led to a heated phone conversation between the two industry professionals.
The situation felt similar to being in the dean’s office. He seemed surprised and said, ‘I’ve rarely seen you act in such a manner. It’s hard for me to fathom that it was you who did what is alleged.’
In her memoir, Palmer recounts an instance where a fellow actress on the set of Murphy’s slasher show, whom she refers to as ‘Brenda’ for anonymity, made a racially offensive comment. Previously, Palmer has mentioned Trey Songz and Tyler Perry in her memoir, but this story focuses on an unexpected encounter with racism during her time working on the two-season show alongside Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Skyler Samuels, and Lea Michele.
Racist Remarks Won’t Stop Keke Palmer
As the first African American woman to play Cinderella on Broadway, Palmer is no stranger to breaking into predominantly white spaces and roles. In her memoir, the actress recalls the details of the racist interaction she had with a white Scream Queens co-star. After the actress she calls Brenda got upset over an issue with another co-worker, Palmer suggested everyone calm down and “have fun and respect each other.” According to Palmer, Brenda replied, “Keke, literally, just don’t. Who do you think you are? Martin f—— Luther King?”
Though her words felt heavy, I refused to absorb that heaviness. I am confident in my identity and know I’m not a victim. That’s not the narrative of my life, dear one. Her opinion doesn’t define me. If I let her words bring me down, then she would have won.
Palmer firmly believes in relaying these tales to her followers to impart life lessons and offer her unique take on gossip stories. Moreover, it has come to light that Palmer will be acting in director Boots Riley’s forthcoming second movie titled “Sorry To Bother You“.
